Default Help with Sub Set up

First let me start by saying that i am very new to this...

I had an old HTIB Samsung that did not have a powered sub, so I upgraded to an AA 10 (400) Watt sub and yesterday after connecting it i am noticing that my old sub was Louder! I turned the Freq all the way to its max and the volume to about 70 percent however don't understand why it seem as though my old one was louder and had more "bang" ...

Any ideas, on my old sub I did not do anything in turns of turning up the bass on the reciver why would i need to do that now?

thanks in advance for your help!

Location must be playing a large factor, and loudness isn't always what you want from a sub, usually lower end subwoofers might be loud but sound rather muddy. Anyways, I believe the 400w from AA is downfiring right? Play with the location in the room and try to get it up at least 6" from the floor.

Does your htib have a way to change the crossover? Find out what the Frequency response is on the back of your sat. speakers. Then set the crossover on the reciever to 100hkz-120hkz and on the sub turn the fr to 130hkz or the max. Volume gain at about half.

Also how is your new sub hooked up...speaker terminals or rca cables?

FR is the range your speakers will produce the sound u hear. Although it will produce outside those limits the range is what the speakers are designed for.

Good set up with rca and a y adapter.

What kind of settings are your speakers large or small?

Is your LFE set to on.

Ok...auto cal in some Sony set the spaekers to large try changing them to small and set your crossover to 80hkz-100hkz. I think it's in 7-system menu on the reciever.

btw i'm confused I thought u said you had a 15 year old hitb?? Is your receiver is newer?

Thanks for your help... so set all speakers to small... will do. and the crossover frequency to 80-100 will do... I am currently working but will do right when i get home... Really new to all this!

yea, i have been updating all my equipment. Bought new reciever, speakers, TV and this sub

thanks for your help... by the way do will ajusting this manually effect my "listening position" (the auto cal has that mic thing you put where you normaly sit...)

Or are you telling me to ajust it only in the "speaker" setting?

I'll have to download your manual...I have a sony str-dh700.

Welcome!!...glad your here...check you manual when you get home. I think these settings are in the "system menu" not level 1.

Thier is a learning curve with this stuff...we all were newbie's once

You have a great system!!

You may want to check the level that the receiver set your sub to as well. When I run my auto calibration, my receiver sets my sub to really low, and I have to bump up the level.

I don't think u can mess it up...it's just a learning process.

I just thought of another setting...find out in your manual where the Dynamic Range Compression setting is, I think it's in level 1 menu. Set this to off not standard. This will allow all the full range of audio...highs and lows. And not compress the sounds. I think the auto cal leaves this at "standard" and should be "off" when your done.

Good Luck...u have a lot of work to do when u get home...
