Cool Energy Speaker Set Up - looking for set up ideas

Hi Everyone,

Ok I have the Onkyo TX-SR605(like everyone and their dog) and was using the SKS-HT740 speakers system from Onkyo with is basically a nice 10 inch sub at 230Watts and 7 satellite type speakers that I wanted to replace.

Ok so now I have:

Energy C-500s as my front set as full range in the A/V settings
Energy C-C10 as my center at 120Hz in the A/V settings

I couldn't find the C-C100 center speaker at FS so went with the RC-Mini.

So for surrounds, i was thinking of getting more floor speakers... the C-300s possibly. Thoughts, pros or cons or floor speakers for surrounds?!?!

Can others share their Energy Speaker set ups?

Thanks

To understand why floor speakers may not be the best option for movies, read A Guide to Bipolar, Dipolar, & Direct-Radiating Surround Speakers.

In my opinion, you would be better off with the Energy RC-R surround speakers, $325 each (list price) or C-R100 surround speakers, $160 each (list price).

Go to www.audioadvisor.com - they carry the Energy brand there. You will find the ones that Big Daddy and I are talking about, but if they are too expensive - you can find the C-100's for 149.99 a pair there also.

I have the Yamaha HTR-6160 A/V Receiver and the following Energy speakers...
Front L/R - C-500
Center - RC-Mini Centre (Had trouble with timbrematching with the LCR)
Surronds - C-200 Bookshelfs
Sub - Velodyne DSP-10

I thoroughly enjoy my C-200's for the surrounds...I tested the RC-R surrounds, the C-200's and the C-100's...and just enjoyed the 200's too much to pass up... plus if I ever upgrade, a decent pair of bookshelves can always be used somewhere else.

Also, you will find that the RC-mini centre is a great speaker for your centre channel.

Man I'm having some serious center channel issues. I think its the size of the room. In a large basement rec room.

The RC-Min was no good for me and then tried the CC-10(goes with the CF floor speakers) center from Energy which was was too big and muscle bound for the C-500s.

Finally tracked down a C-C100 on EBay, hopefully this will be the end of my problems having all C-Series speakers that belong with each other.

I think I will take CC-10 back tomorrow and pick up the ESW-C10 sub woofer.

This week-end I am moving the HT to the basement rec room (12' x 29') Interesting to hear that the RC-mini didn't quite sound right down there... After this week-end I will see... Let me know how the C-100 sounds... I considered hunting it down, but figured the RC-mini would substitute just fine

picked up the S10.3.... got it for a good price. If i am not happy with this I will have to fork over more for the ESW-V10 but from what I read and get from others, I should be happy with the S10.3 Hooking up now hehe.

PS was told to stay away from the ESW-C10. Apparently the 10.3 and V10 are much better.

Feedback coming haha.

I just picked this one up as well (got it for $150!). I must say, it sounds great compared to the eXL-S8 I had before. I'm very happy with it. I had considered the ESW-V10 as well but in every review I read, the S10.3 faired a little better, even though the ESW-V10 was a recommended match (in similar materials- ribbed elliptical woven drivers) with my RC-10's, RC-LCR and RC-R surrounds.

Same here, it's funny because the V10 costs way more but the S10.3 matches it performance wise. Maybe the 10.3 is an older model being phased out or something?!?!

I'm very happy with it. I played a couple BDs quickly, a vinyl record and many CDs and it sounds awesome.

I threw in Bon Jovi's Keep the Faith and the S10.3 felt like it was punching me in the face with that opening bass line riff lol

7.1 system

2 towers C-500
1 Center C-C-100
1 Sub S10.3
4 Bookshelf Speakers C-100

I think that You would have been better with 4 Bookshelf Speakers C-100 ( for a 7.1 system) or only 2 for a (5.1 system). But it's all about opinions here.

I don't have my Receiver yet but my friend lend me is just for try and Im must say that the energy speakers are quite good for the price. My friend as Paradigm speakers and you can see a small difference but there is also a big difference in the price. Don't get me wrong here is paradims speakers as one of the best but for the price and the bit of difference I woudn't pay for Paradims.

My four year old set up is :

Energy Connoisseur CR-7 front L + R
Energy Connnoiseur C-C3 center channel
Two Energy S8.2 Subwoofers on each side of the front speakers
Connoisseur C-R1 surround L + R
No surround back speakers.

Way back on the day (Xmas 2005), when I was setting the home theater, I called the support line for Energy in Canada. They connected me to THE ENGINEER WHO DESIGNED THE SPEAKERS!!! The told me then that Energy surrounds are designed to be placed two-thirds up of the height of the wall, left and right of my seated listening position. We experimented while he held the line and he was right. The sound, I thought then, was unbeatable.

I got my blu-ray players last week. A Sony BDP-S550 for the basement. The uncompressed bass of the blu-rays makes the grills on the Cr-7s rattle when I set the recommended +10 dB boost on the 5.1 analog output on my Denon receiver. I will readjust sound levels during my Xmas vacation. I wonder if that nice guy still works there...

hey guys!
I have just purchased the start to my first home theatre speaker system. Pioneer 1018 reciever, Energy C-500s, Energy C100s (bookshelfs for surrounds).
I am currently looking for a C-C100 center channel & a sub
My question is, where can I find this center speaker in Canada, and also, what sub would go well with this set-up (Im guessing S10.3??)
Thanks
