Ok, since I am hearing different stories and really not sure what do I will ask you fine people out there. I have a room with moderate light, but is almost 100% dark when lights are out, and I am thinking of painting my wall with the screen black because I was told it will actually help with the light I have in the room. I do watch shows/movies more often than not with the lights on or set low so is this really going to help? BTW its a 1.1 grain grey wolf screen on a white wall right now.
thanks for the help everyone |

The color isn't as important as the finish....... if you can live with the negative aspects of having a flat/matte finish.... do that....
Also, a textured wall helps to prevent reflection/refraction too. With all that being said.... I painted my front wall and ceiling Matte Black ![]() |

As far as having black as the front wall, it's for the same reasons "Most" televisions have black-bezels..... black helps with the perceived contrast you see on the screen. Here are a couple of links http://searchwarp.com/swa79630.htm http://www.the-creative-home.com/hom...nt-colors.html There was a thread at one time (that I can't find) that showed pictures where someone painted a wall with the same color, in four different (maybe five) finishes, and he fired up the projector........ The wall was on the side, not behind the screen...... and you could tell from his pictures the difference in the paints' finishes, and how reflective they are. If your paint reflects light, it's going to tint the image on the screen, and brighten up the room in the process. Because of it's "Absorptive" properties, many people (Brain Sturgeon for one) use black felt/velvet on the walls, rather than painting them.... here is the stuff, if you're interested in it (cheaper is available I'm sure) http://www.mcmaster.com/#velvet-sheets/=4uuokg |
