Why don't studios pride themselves with better packaging?

One thing I hate about blu-ray (besides their MSRP) is that they seemed to forget about unique packaging. Seven, Boogie Nights, Fight Club, Lost seasons, Texas Chainsaw Massacre all come in beautiful digipaks and steelbooks.
Overseas gets nice steelbooks for some movies, here in the states some movies get green cases instead of blue ones, but are we saying goodbye to cool art like the Seven notebook? It'll be a shame if that movie comes with the notebook cover, but housed in an standard amaray case.
