Red face No DTS-HD MA in Forrest Gump, G.I Joe and District 9

Looks like EU / UK releases of these titles will feature Dolby TrueHD instead of DTS-HD MA. No idea why Paramount / Sony are doing this.

I don't know about District 9 or Forrest Gump but G.I. Joe has DTS-HD MA :

Dolby Digital 5.1 in Deutsch
Dolby Digital 5.1 in Spanisch
Dolby Digital 5.1 in Italienisch
Dolby Digital 5.1 in Französisch
DTS HD Master Audio 5.1 in Englisch

This is taken from Dutch and German press-releases.

What's funny is that people are more shocked if you dislike DTS than if you dislike Dolby. It's ok to say "Dolby sucks" but not the other way around.

I personally don't dislike either, it's just an observation...

Question Just curious

If "Lossless is Lossless", why do DTSHD-MA and especially LPCM soundtracks play at such higher bitrates than TrueHD. Just wondering.

With lossless you want lower bitrates for greater video bandwidth. ZIP and RAR both compress files but RAR compresses them further. PCM is uncompressed. DTS is losslessly compressed but has the lossy track as part of its structure. TrueHD is a completely discrete track.

People have preference. Many preferes DTS over Dolby and that's the reason Sony switched to DTS-HD. Paramount seems to do DTS-HD on select titles. So, why shaft the EU release with TrueHD.

PeterTHX is not a DTS hater but is a true Dolby defender.

Btw, I am aware that both may sound the same but why try such gimmicks.

Wow i've just been reading some of the review of TRANSFORMERS ROTF and it seems that one version of the movie has been Dial-Normed and the other version has not. WTF.

You might want to check if DRC or "Night Mode" is being triggered to ON or AUTO on your AVR/pre-pro. This is similar to the Iron Man bug that has been documented here. All the TNG BDs trigger DRC on my pre-pro... or is it vice-versa? I'm also not positive if this affects only certain AVR/pre-pro brands/models, but it's at least worth checking out.

I can't think of a bigger waste of time than discussing one's preferred lossless format.
