Default Dark Phoenix (2019)

Deadpool 2, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, New Mutants Get Release Dates

Quote:
20th Century Fox has given official release dates to three upcoming X-Men movies.

New Mutants will open on April 13, 2018. Deadpool 2 will follow on June 1, 2018. The next core X-Men movie, now confirmed to be X-Men: Dark Phoenix, will open on Nov. 2, 2018.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix will be an adaptation of "The Dark Phoenix Saga," generally regarded as the greatest X-Men story ever told. X-Men: The Last Stand previously adapted the story, but fans were generally not satisfied with the results. The X-Men movies' time travel shenanigans have provided Fox with a rare second chance to do the story justice.

Sophie Turner will return as Jean Grey, the host for the Phoenix Force and central figure of the saga. Tye Sheridan and Alexandra Shipp are expected to return as Cyclops and Storm, respectively. The older members of the prequel trilogy cast had their contracts expire after X-Men: Apocalypse, so their involvement remains up in the air.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is also expected to begin film in Montreal in May, leading to some speculation that the film will connect directly to New Mutants.

I think McAvoy is the most likely to return, Lawrence? Hell no she won't.

Doesn't sound like an actual reboot, particularly if the cast is being looked at to return, but a reconfiguration of what the main series will be. Which makes sense given box lower b.o for Apocalypse and even the story as they just completed the second trilogy and have now fully formed the X-Men in the alternate timeline.

IIRC McAvoy, Fassbender and Lawrence only said they'd return if everyone did. Might've included Hoult, too. Who knows, if enough money is thrown at them, people can change their minds real quick.

I had no idea that Apocalypse made so little, compared to Days of Future Past. Then again, they took a lot of gambles, introducing new versions of Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, and Nightcrawler. Psylocke was finally introduced; I hope they bring them all back for a proper sequel. They could set it maybe three years later, in 1986...referencing things like Back to the Future, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, or Top Gun.

Na. I'd rather see X-men be it's own thing instead of mesh and blur into the collective MCU with the same old humor/cinematography/music.

I still think they made more memorable and enjoyable films with X2, FC and DoFP as compared the majority of the MCU.

All studios want to make money. That's why Marvel sticks with their own formula and rarely go outside their own comfort zone.

Lawrence is beyond fed up with the role, the upside is Raven is a shapeshifter so it's easy to re-cast.

Good riddance. She phoned her last X-men performance in like it was long distance.

When the X-Men movies first came out, I had my doubts. I came from an academy where I got my @ss kicked near daily for liking comics and non sports/rainbow six games. It has always been a bit of a sore spot with me to watch super hero movies, it takes me back to 10 of the worst years of my life. But at the same time so cool to see the budgets for these be what they are and to see sold out screenings of my favorite characters albeit different than the comics. I figured the best we could ever expect would be Syfy channel quality from the 90s.
Thinking about the characters changing in a reboot bothers me a bit. We've had these characters 'set' for 15 years. But so long as quality remains good, I'll be happy. It would be great to see so many other characters and teams show up. X-Force, X-Factor, Generation X, Excalibur. X-Men have 50 years of stories and characters to play with. The key in my opinion is to not burn out the market, common sense enough, but it seems to be happening to an extent.

I'm not sure why that article acts like they're totally changing plans and then finishes saying Deadpool 2/X-Force, Gambit and an Apocalypse sequel are the current plan. That's exactly what they have been saying they will do for years. Only thing different is no mention of New Mutants.

I would bet large sums of money on Deadpool joining the girl Wolverine clone from Logan in X-Force with a bunch of new characters, set in the near-future.

I've always found this sentiment curious. I'd rank the best X-men films above at least 70% of the MCU Ones.

Looks like they're fast tracking the Deadpool franchise (Understandably). But Mentioning Deadpool 3 this early is surprising.

I do wanna see New Mutants so I hope that happens.

I would be shocked if Gambit ever actually gets made. They've been talking about it and it's gotten delayed for far too long.

The script just has to be terribly flawed. They should do a page one rewrite instead of all these little revisions that never work out and directors move on.

I dont know why they think Gambit is a moneymaker in 2017?
Hes far from Deadpool in popularity and longevity.
The window was open after Origins.
I doubt Gambit is even in whatever remaining X-Books.

It was announced at the C2E2 convention by Marvel Comics that in August 2012 Gambit gets his own solo series that takes him back to his roots as a charismatic, cool, mutant master thief, written by James Asmus and drawn by Clay Mann. When asked about the upcoming series Asmus was quoted saying "This book focuses on the two most important aspects of Gambit: #1 that he's sexy, and #2 that he's the preeminent bad-ass thief of the Marvel Universe." Marvel canceled the series at issue #17.

It was announced at the New York Comic Convention (NYCC) that Gambit would be one of the principal characters in the relaunch of the X-Factor series, All-New X-Factor. To be written by Peter David and drawn by Carmine Di Giandomenico. The series will be cancelled after issue #20, with David suggesting that it would be some time before Marvel considers featuring Gambit in a leading role again due to persistently low sales record in this and previous titles.
