Because, as of right now, pirates really can't download 3D content, so the studios have pushed 3D hard to try to get people into the theatres for an experience they currently cannot get at home.

The technology is now waaaay better than ever before, so the 3D experience in the theater is now on par with looking at images through your old 3D ViewMaster - remember those? I saw Up and Avatar in 3D and the picture quality on both was excellent with hardly any blurring. There's a lot more depth in each shot than 20 years ago. Personally, I'm enjoying seeing movies in 3D at the theater.

It could just be short-sightedness from a marketing perspective, or the studios--having not learned much--actually believe that home 3D content will be 'un-copyable' (just like CDs were supposed to be, and DVDs, etc.).

What is different about it this time is its not 3d for 3ds sake the movie avatar is the same movie in 2d or 3d so you know they dont just have things sticking out at you for 10 sec at a time . This movie does it to bring you into the world of pandora and it does a fantastic job.

I saw Avatar last night in 3D IMAX and it was my first time watching 3D. I don't know if the 3D was so hyped up for me that I was expecting too much or what, but honestly I guess I was a little disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie, but am I missing something?
My first time seeing a movie in IMAX (Star Trek) was better than I expected, the clarity was awesome (maybe because it was such a step up from regular movie theaters I was used to) or maybe I was expecting the 3D IMAX experience to be just as clear or maybe it was in fact really clear, but my eyes are not used to 3D viewing - ? ![]() In any case, I'm seeing AVATAR again in 3D IMAX maybe this weekend as last night's showing was really late. |

obviously, if 2 different people have 2 completely different experiences with a 3D blu-ray, then the individuals expectations/open-mindedness is what governs, not the technology. |

I saw Monsters Vs. Aliens and UP in 3D, and I rather enjoyed it! It doesnt make your head spin or give you a headache, the new technology is really cool! I cant wait for it to actually hit the home market, and to think what it could do for the world of gaming and sports to! I think it would be kind of neat to watch a football game in 3D!
