That's a very hard budget to get anything decent, does that include the receiver or just speakers?

20 movie tickets?

Nah, you can probably find a fairly decent HTiB deal. Check Circuit City. Someone posted there was a Bose set for $250 earlier this week.

While I wouldn't recommend Bose, it may be better than nothing.

Well, I guess Im lookin for a HTiB, I honestly didnt know there were other options( I think ive definitely been living in a cave when in comes to home theater) And to not recommend BOSE, I always thought they were top of the line, not by any experience with them, maybe just the impression I had.

Bose marketing.

"Top of the line" HTiB would have to be Onkyo's offerings in my mind. Alternatively building separates opens the door to much greater variety and quality.

Got this same setup in my living room. cant ask for more bang for the buck IMO. I'll be upgrading to the HD audio Pioneer receiver this summer

I think it only makes sense if you were to find the Bose system at $250, buy the Bose and sell it for a huge markup and buy a much better system.

That's pretty good for the price, BB or places like that are probably your best bet with that budget, just watch your local sales. My other option would be look your local buy & sell paper or online classifieds in your neighborhood, you might be able to find something better for that price, just used.

Heres what Im doin right now for a " surround sound" ( for some of you more sensitive folks, you may want to turn away at this time....)

I have an AIWA CX-NDS8 stereo system Im guessin around 10 yrs old, out of it I have a center speaker sitting directly in front of my LG 52 50. Then I have a Pioneer AV Digital Surround VSA-910 amp controlling the two sub speakers from the stereo sitting on either side of my entertainment center. The reason I ran the speakers seperate, is this way I can have a little balance control, using the stereo to control treble(center speaker) and the Pioneer to control bass (subs) SO I try to dial it in with the surround speakers inside my TV so that I get as much of a balance as I can from all three. I think I make pretty good lemonade from rotten, worm infested lemons!!!

That Onkyo link is very good too. Something Ive been noticing is the lack of an HDMI connection in some of the cheaper packages. Am I really going to wish Id picked one that had the HDMI?? Considering that Im as much a newb to this as anyone can be?

Yes, you're really going to regret that down the road. Don't do it, man!

How is my sig forcefully doing anything? I have not changed the links in my sig for quite awhile now too so excuse me if you don't like it. I don't own any of the speakers from Polk's newer Monitor line. I have their vintage speakers in my setup. I never owned one Polk product in my life before a few months ago. I just appreciate Polk's sound, especially at their price points. I have helped many people put together their home theaters and recommend a wide variety of products according to people's requirements. I am not biased at all when it comes to recommending products. First I recommend Polk as it fits most people's needs, and if that isn't good enough or is too much, then I recommend accordingly. I don't see what is so forceful.

Unfortunately, at your price point, HDMI may simply not be an option. I may be proven wrong, but I'm gonna go out on limb and say that for $200, you will not find an HTiB supporting HDMI input.

Just wondering how much Sony pays you to forcefully suggest their PS3s, cuz you know, I noticed in your sig that you own like two of them, and just stickin' them there for everybody to see gives me personally this weird compulsion to go out and buy one. I can't explain it, but I feel like the mere presence of said products in your sig is an irresistible command to go spend money on Sony products. Maybe I'll pick up a Panny Plasma to go with it...
