got an older 6th gen celica that takes double DIN headunits.
i have a VERY specific question about which head unit will do the following: -HD Radio (built-in) -Bluetooth (a2dp) -DVD Audio MLP -SACD -5.1 -FLAC 5.1 i have a sizeable DVDA&SACD collection. DVDA and SACD are why this can't be a carputer. neither format can be played from a PC currently (@least not w/SACD, i know there are DVD A rippers, but it still doesn't play DVDA natively from the PC w/complete lossless audio with no downrez). i have not found a head unit that will do all of that and i'm not even asking for blu-rays lulz. i know i'm asking a lot, but i can compromise stuff EXCEPT: -HD Radio -FLAC -Bluetooth. i have a HTC phone that can do Bluetooth a2dp. i'm thinking about pairing that up w/a car unit that accepts a2dp and play .flac from my phone... but it's only stereo =(. that's the compromise i'm willing to make. afaik, there aren't a lot of headunits that play .flac |

Finding a unit with built-in support for both HD Radio and Bluetooth is a challenge in itself (I've been searching over a year for one); adding FLAC to the equation makes it nigh impossible. With CES 2010 in full swing, I did some preliminary research on car receiver offerings to see if there were more comprehensive units on tap for the coming year, but info via company press releases is minimal and photo previews are sporadic, at best. For me, HD Radio was paramount, along with a front USB input; these have been available over the past year, so it came down to aesthetics and ergonomics. Bluetooth was less important, and I figure I could always add an adapter later on. Lossless audio support isn't a concern for me because the interior isn't insulated enough to minimize environmental distractions, which hinders the listening experience; nevertheless, I still encode my MP3s at the highest bitrate possible (not as good as lossless, but acceptable for my needs). I don't know if the following suggestion is right for you: purchase a head unit with either HD Radio or Bluetooth built-in, install a separate Bluetooth adapter or HD Radio tuner and use the auxiliary input to connect a device that handles FLAC, OGG or another lossless audio format. It's an imperfect solution, but seeing as no lossless audio format is widely supported by any of the car audio manufacturers, it may be worth a look. ![]() |

For car audio forum I do not know too much about it. But when I intend to buy car audio products, I would go to Google for a big search. Then make comparison with the price, quality, feature and the functions.
