Food, inc Blu-ray Review

Quote:
The veil on our nation's food industry is lifted, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that's been hidden from the U.S. consumer with the consent of our government's regulatory agencies, USDA and FDA. Our nation's food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of our farmers, the safety of our workers and our own environment. We have bigger-breasted chickens, the perfect pork chop, insecticide-resistant soybean seeds, even tomatoes that won't go bad, but we also have new strains of e coli--the harmful bacteria that causes illness for an estimated 73,000 of our citizens annually.

Saw this at BB the other day. Looked really interesting and I was about to buy it, but then I held back as I didn't think it would be the sort of film I would need to see in high definition.....

Blu-ray.com Review

I just watched this docu last night...

freaking amazing and scary!!

I think everyone needs to see this

I even watched it on Blu-ray for some reason...picture quality was top-notch, but, the audio...meh...

but, its not you are watching this for the special effects, right?

and, don't let the "From the producers of An Inconvenient Truth" on the cover scare you away..

this is a great docu....I'm not even that big of a hippie, for reals!!

An equally horrifying Docu about the food industry is King Corn. Very even handed and simply delivers basic facts. All of which were mindblowing.

I hate this film.

It's a subject I have great passion for, but this was not much beyond a propaganda piece with a decent budget. It's got some good info in it, but like a lot of "docs" these days, it's more notable about what they omit.

The short of it is, it's a long commercial for the organic industry. Instead of trying to push people to buy local, it pushes people to buy organic. Which if you do your research has a lot of scary shit about it as well. A lot of people think organic means no pesticides or herbicides, which is a myth, it simply means you use "organic" ones. Which can often be much more toxic than synthetic ones. and a lot of the same "evil" companies, are the ones that actually own most organic brands you see in stores. The organic industry needs it's own doc. I was hoping for a well balanced doc, that has some rational avenues for consumers to take, but sadly, it does not.

I strongly urge everyone, to fact check anything they see a doc like this before taking it to heart. Yes even hippy docs can lie, omit and misrepresent. This one is no exception, but not nearly as horrible as "Supersize Me" or the horribly evil "Business of Being Born".
