Default BR Media - Beware of places with Hidden Charges!

There are a lot of vedors on the net who fight tooth and nail to list the lowest price with the search engines, only to hide inflated shipping charges that appear when you check out. You probably have already been a victim of this unethical marketing strategy. I sure have

I found this today while doing my daily check of current Blu-ray hardware and media pricing. It's absolutely shameless of them to charge this for a single disc. When I see this, I permanently remove that vendor from my list of online sources:

It's not a hidden charge, but it's not a reasonable cost either! Media mail would be significantly cheaper!!!!
Is it being shipped like 2nd day or something?

It's hidden to the search engines that report only the lowest price without listing shipping charges. Some of the better ones now show ALL charges. But people are still sucked in, not knowing any better.

I found one even worse than the one above. Now you tell me that ten bucks is a fair price for shipping a single disc. No way

Nope. Standard shipping.

But at least with the second one you could buy 9 of them and not pay shipping at all!

A lot of the computer vendors only use FedEx, that's why. Pretty much $1 for envelope and stuffing time+$5.50 for Fedex and there's your shipping charge

Here's my take on that, from a vendors point of view.

Get over it, if you want to pay for only 1 single disc and can't afford any more than that, the vendor might be making $1 maybe $2 per BD-R disc. They have to process your order, package your order and arrange shipment of your order. I don't know about you but $2 does not compensate the vendor for the time and service he is providing here, not to mention that they are in it for profit not to make poorpers like you happy.
This may sound aggresive but it's just a wake up call, they have every right to charge more than the cost of the freight for a shipping and handling fee.

If you ordered 10 discs the shipping is free!!!!!

I didn't say whether it was fair or not, I just said it's not hidden.

Fair is up to the consumer to decide - if you don't think it's fair, buy somewhere else.

lol I dont think 11.00$ for shipping is "fair" on a tiny blu-ray package.. can buy those bubble mailers for like 1.00$ or less + shipping ground 1-7 days on a tiny blu-ray might be like 1.50-2.50 max... lol thats insane id rather give 20$ to bestbuy then to keep letting some online dealer price gouge on shipping i might understand if they were always using 2-3 priority / overnight shipping but for 1-7 bs thats a "standard charge"

You miss the point. Why is he buying 1 disc from an online retailer? Get one at the local store FGS. Ohhhhh, he's out to save a buck and wants the convenience of door to door delivery for next to nothing as well.

Over-react much?

If you've noticed, it costs a minimum amount to ship an item, whether it's value is $10 or $100, doesn't matter.

Your highly unethical company here charges close to actual shipping costs, place 10 of those into your cart and look at the charge. I'll give you a hint, it's not $61 for shipping. I see no deceptive practices. Actually, if you bother to care, you're getting a better deal. They could have the discs at $15 each and free shipping, but when you buy 10 you're paying through the nose!

And aren't search engines so 6 years ago? Who uses them anymore? It's far more important to buy from a reputable store than concern yourself over squeezing every last penny out of a purchase.

Assuming it takes them 1 minute to stuff a disc in a padded envelope, you're saying that $120/hour isn't enough for overhead for some kid who sits there all day doing that?

And ...name calling? What is a "poorpers" anyways?
I'm trying to look out for the members here and expose semi-hidden inflated shipping charges, which by the way is an old trick. I don't like seeing people get ripped off, and you hurl insults at me?

When I joined this forum I posted that it seemed like a mature, adult place to discuss the format. Perhaps I spoke too soon. All it takes is a few like you to ruin a forum

Adios

Although I understand where you're coming from and I agree with not paying that much for shipping for that 1 item, but the question is are they using USPS, USP, or FEDEX? I would have to also agree with some of the others on here.

Why would you be buying 1? Buy 10 and get free shipping.
How does the price of 10 compare to other sites?
If you buy two does the shipping price double?

I agree there's no real reason for anyone to be acting childish here.

PC companies habitually use fedex to reduce fraud as much as possible due to their expensive gear, and they get discounts on volume shipping.

Just deal with the fact that ordering from independant PC retailers might not be the best idea for Blu Media unless buying in bulk

Huh, of course you got to pay for shipping. The product can't just magicaly apear infront of you when you click "buy" button.

you can't see delivery charges when you search on price search engines because they don't know where your located, untill you select it. Some sites will not give out shipping costs untill at check out. Feel lucky as for deleivery fees for shipping for me is usualy 3x that, unless they provied USPS shipping instead of only UPS/Fedex.
