BD PQ & AQ scoring system

Hi.Just want to get this rating system sorted here.On reviews you get PQ/AQ and film review stars ranging from 1-5.What is the criteria here?To me:1-is less than good DVD quality,2-about same as a good DVD transfer,3-slightly better sharpness and better color rendition than a DVD,4-very good transfer which is easily distinguasable from DVD and 5-excellent transfer,period!

Those are my criteria.What is the general idea here?

I don't want to say your rating system / ideas are wrong, but any blu-ray will never be "less than good DVD quality" not even 28 Days Later that everyone likes to b*tch about. I think the rating system is just to show how good each individual film looks / sounds based on its own merits, not its former DVD counterpart.

Also, each movie is rated by itself - not to anything else. So Transformers gets a 5/5 for PQ because it deserves it and Close Encounters of the Third Kind gets 5/5 because it's never looked better and being made in 1977 it looks amazing, even though if you were to watch both back to back everyone would say Transformers has better PQ.

Agree about the latter point:No film can look better than stock material,but think 'Escape from new york' looks worse than some newer DVD releases ('Inglorious basterds' to name one),so my question really is: Do you all consider 1 to be less than good DVD quality,or the same as a good DVD transfer?

The ratings don't only have to do with how they compare to DVD quality, because just like blu's, not all DVD's are the same. Some are great, others far worse. And you have to take technical issues into account as well
