Default Why isn't there any higher bit DTS or DD tracks that an optical output can do 5.1

I was just wondering why there are not many disks that have a higher bit DTS track, that a DVD can't handle but still can be passed via optical cables. The only reason I am posting this is because I do not have an HDMI tuner. Which means I am S.O.L for a higher rate sound track than DD 5.1 if I decide that my Blu Ray player will be a PS3. Excuse me I can get better audio than that on quite a few SD DVD's that have a DTS tracks. Don't tell me it's a space issue either, alright on some Blu Ray's it maybe but I saw that Hellboy had 2 seperate PCM tracks an Engish and a German don't ask me why. If they have enough space on a disc for 2 PCM 5.1 tracks they should have room on some for a Blu Rays for a Higher Bit DTS or Dolby Digital track that can still be put out through an optical/Toslink cable.

On a bit of a different subject would it be better to have DD 5.1 going to my tuner or an uncompressed PCM 2 channel which my tuner will then process via pro logic II break up into there respective channels. I could hook it up via bot outputs simoltaniosly and find out.

BD still has finite space and bandwidth, even if it's higher than what you've experienced.

All new mid-high end receivers have HDMI and the high resolution multichannel PCM or TrueHD tracks is the preferred method of delivery.

DD at 640 kbps is more than a match for 1.5Mbps DTS tracks (the max output thru Toslink).

Not to mention that most DVDs don't even use the full 1.5Mbps that the DTS standard provides - most use only 768kbps I believe.

@Canada
Don't worry man, you're getting a bit higher quality audio on blu-ray than DVD with just the DD 5.1 tracks. At least that's the impression I got, since I don't have HDMI either. I know it sucks to have to buy new equipment to get PCM or TrueHD, but practically everybody needs to upgrade something to get the most of the new HD disc formats. That's just how it is when technology advances.
