Question Pausing Your Blu-ray Player

What's your opinion?
I usually go through all the bull$#it at the beginning of the movie then pause my player for 5 to 10 minutes before I sitdown & restart the movie.Do you think this is harming my Blu-ray player in any way?

P.S. I do not freeze the image on my plasma.

Not sure what the point is, other than if you're handling your Blu-ray player incorrectly?

I don't think so because you're using it like it is designed to be used, you know, you can pause, skip chapters and so on.
What would be wrong with that?

I've always been wary of pausing discs for longer periods of time. I used to buy LD's and never paused them for longer than a minute or so as I read somewhere that it could cause the motor to burn out! Lol! Anyway, because of that notion, pausing has been a bit of a hang-up with me ever since and I try not to pause Blu's or DVDs unnecessarily. I tend to just go to the menu screen and then hit play when I'm ready to go straight back to the point I left. Either that or use the scene access options. I dare say sophisticated blu-ray players and DVD stand-alones are designed to be paused without harming the machine/motor as it's a different technology. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated though!

It's a time thing.By pausing for extended time say from 5 min.-15 min. can this cause any problems by overextending anything in the player.

I sometimes press pause on either of my Blu-ray players and leave it paused for extended periods of time. I don't worry about any adverse effects because both of my players go into hibernation mode within 3 minutes or so and then a screensaver kicks in. Up until now, I have had no problems with either of my players unless the disc itself is faulty/dirty or deeply scratched (Netflix).

I'm far from an expert on the matter, I just don't see how pausing is that much different from playing, because the disc is still spinning right?

no the disc is still spinning. the diode is what is stopped which creates the pausing affect. when you hit play the diode mechanism starts moving again. SO basically hitting pause for long periods of time. NO I don't believe it cuases any harm.

The only thing you do is to make the motor runs harder, and yes, eventually you'll wear it faster. BUT, before that happens you'll be at your next player or two or three more down the road, so the point is moot.

My experience w/my player is that pausing doesn't do any harm. I think the disc just stops spinning but the player just retains the last image on the screen after you press pause b/c it takes the player a few secs to start the movie up again when you unpause or hit play again.

I pause it all day long. I'm impatient and refuse to wait for it to load.
