I bought Equilibrium on DVD at a local pawn shop for $5 since the blu-ray is somewhere around $30, a price I'm not longer willing to pay. Other than that the format has been pretty much abandoned for me.

I will still buy a dvd for $3 or less. I also make the occasional purchase of shows that will never be in High-Definition. All my other dvd purchases have stopped.

It's been about two years, but that's only because Walt Disney's "Dr. Syn, The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh" became available in the limited edition 'Treasures' collection. Good thing I got it, because the last time I looked at Amazon, the cheapest used version went for $148. I'm not holding my breath for that one to be released on BD.

isn't there another thread titled, "anyone still buy DVD's"?

the only reason i ask is it seems people hate seeing multiples of the same thread. i have no idea how to merge the two together, and i don't really care, but someone might.

as for my answer, the last DVD i bought was season 5 of The Office, only reason i didn't buy it on blu was because the other seasons aren't out on blu (yet). and chances are i won't buy another DVD until season 6

I never purchase a DVD if there is a Blu available, and try not to buy one if I think a Blu is going to be available eventually. I did, however, recently buy a couple of Smurfs DVDs. It's my favourite cartoon, but I doubt there will ever be a Blu-ray release for it, especially since it still has not made it to Region 2 DVD. You never know though! The Smurfs has always been a popular enough show, there's a movie on the way in 2011, and it was made in 35mm printed film so a Blu-ray conversion is possible, I just highly doubt it will happen.

I don't buy DVDs for myself anymore, but I still do for my son. Just today we went to Walmart today and got him Harry and the Hendersons.

If the blu is available I won't buy the standard dvd. Also on some movies that I never got around to buying yet, for whatever reason, if I feel there is a good chance of them hitting blu in the near future i will pass on the dvd. But I still buy some dvds, example tv shows and some animation that I enjoy because I don't think they will ever come out on blu, or not for a very very long time and I won't deprive myself of videos that I love.

If a title I want isn't available on Blu, I will buy it on DVD. Only about 1/3 of my collection is Blu, and I will never part with my remaining DVD's unless they too get a superior Blu-ray transfer at some point. I have too many obscure and out-of-print titles that'll most likely never see the light of day on Blu, and even if they do, I might be an old man by that point, and not really even care what format I'm watching the movie on.

The only DVDs I'll buy now are the few Criterion new releases that don't make it to Blu, also their Essential Art House series and Eclipse titles. That's it though, I love Glee but refused to buy the first season because it was DVD only, still don't understand that.

The last DVD I purchased was quite recent, Paranormal Activity. I wanted to see if it was as great as people made it out to be. Soon after I sold the majority of my DVD collection, including Paranormal Activity, and purchased a BD player. However, there is still one DVD I plan on buying soon. Garbage: Absolute Garbage. It took forever for them to release something on DVD so I'm guessing it will be much, much longer before they do anything on BD. I need my Shirley Manson fix.

I still buy DVD's, for a few reasons. Firstly if the DVD is $6 or less and is not on BD I buy it. As well, so-so or not-so-great movies, where the BD vs DVD price difference is large, I buy in DVD (after-all I upconvert with my player, so the difference is less). Furthermore, BD's are still much too expensive.
