Default New SVS Amp

images at Cynthia Reports on Day 1 - Earthquake, Marvell, SVS - SECRETS CAVE

"The BOS-TA1 is a 7.1 channel amplifier priced around $1000 that actually exceeds the power of most AV receivers- 250W, 4 0hm (stereo- 150 watt, 8 ohm) " and its ICEPower so should be interesting to hear more

So is that 150 watts into 7 channels at 8 ohms with what kind of deviation? I find the ICEpower interesting.....

I can't help but think this has to be in part a response to the success of Emotiva, I think the internet direct distribution of affordable amplifiers is a growing marketplace.

I wonder if Emotiva has plans for a class D or ICE amp? I like the smaller form factor.

SVS FS-SA800, What is this supposed to be? A pre-pro( doesn't look to have enough electronics for this )? A integrated stereo amp?

How can they get away with not having big transformers? That thing looks slim...

I'd be very interested in something like this though.

The SVS BOS-TA1 seems to using the ICEpower 150ASH7.
"150ASH7 is an integrated amplifier and power supply solution that utilizes ICEpower’s switching technologies. 150ASH7 delivers the power of 7 x 150W into 8Ω."
small_150ash7_images_2_27042009.jpg

The specs from ICEpower.com states:

Nominal Power( 150 Watts )
<0.05% THD+N, 8Ω, 20Hz-20kHz
One channel driven FTC

Nominal Power( 150 Watts )
<0.1% THD+N, 8Ω, 20Hz-20kHz
Two channel driven FTC

Nominal Power( 120 Watts )
<0.1% THD+N, 8Ω, 1kHz
Seven channels driven

Nominal Power( 63 Watts )
<0.1% THD+N, 8Ω, 20Hz-20kHz
Seven channels driven FTC

"The integrated design and compact, low profile form factor of the 150ASH7 open up a world of new design opportunities for home theater audio applications. The overall weight and complexity of the amplifier section is dramatically reduced, mainly by eliminating the massive transformer and the bulky heat sinks normally required by class AB amplifiers.

The efficiency of ICEpower150ASH7 exceeds 90% in both amplifier and power supply sections. This eliminates the notorious heat problems in traditional AV receiver and AV amplifier designs and ensures cool and reliable performance, raising the bar in home theater experience."

63 W/channel, not much better than my SONY STR-DA5300ES power output. I think I'll continue with my plan to get a Emotiva XPA-5.

Average power to 7 channels could fall anywhere between 120W & 63W per channel.

SVS e-mailed me the following this morning:

This is a 800W 2-channel amp with a DSP and feature controller we designed for use with our Artisan in-wall/on-wall passive subwoofer systems. We had it powering two dual-driver subwoofers (a total of four 12” woofers) at CES 2010.
