Default Battlestar galactica Blu-ray

I just spent about 20 minutes going through a whole bunch of posts. Lots and lots of info on the "poor packaging"......both USA and UK...and on and on.

Not one mention is the BR is just better of a lot better. I have the whole season on DVD.......(a Xmas present)........love the series, but would love to upgrade to BR.

Some of my BR upgrades have been only marginally better the the DVD they are replacing.

Your thoughts.........

Jack

Outside of the miniseries the BD are a noticeable improvement in sound and picture quality over the DVDs. Anyone saying they are minimal compared to unconverted DVD are nuts. I happen to like the UK packaging a lot but I suppose that is a matter of taste.

People disliked the UK packaging? You get an episode guide with it presented in a nice tin. Vs. the US set which has a decent looking box but the disks can get scratched easily.

Yes, there are people on here that still dislike that packaging as well. I remembering reading the posts. From the comparison video I watched that was posted on here, it still is not perfect, but it still seems far better than the US packaging.

Yes, it's absolutely worth the upgrade. The large space battles in particular and flyby shots of Galactica pop with visual detail and crisp colors, and the cannon fire really roars. The first thing I did when my set came in was watch the battle scenes from "Exodus Part II" and my jaw hit the floor.

The packaging doesn't bother me that much, though I do think a digipak or plastic case would have suited the set better. None of my discs are scratched.

I agree the packaging is fine. and the disks are fine. How often you going to be taking each one out anyway?

And trust me the HD picture and DTS-MA tracks are amazing too. you can pick up the UK edition real good price. I got the US version from DD during the huge sale for under $150 and its really worth every penny even @ $200

If you hate the packaging just have some custom cases and artwork ready when it arrives (regardless what country you buy it from). I put the discs in new cases the minute i got them and they have never touched those sleeves again.
Yes it cost a bit more to get cases and print art but in my opinion if you can find a combo of cases and art you like its better then either set.
Personally even with an episode guide being very enticing I still do not like the UK tin from pictures and you tube vids, and honestly prefer the look (note, I am only talking about the look, not disc housing, content, etc) of the US version. Just my opinion so lets not start trying to prove me wrong or whatever.

But regardless the blu ray set is the way to go as I did rent some of the DVDs from netflix and am glad that I got the blu ray versions.

Definitely get the blu ray.

It may also be worth mentioning that in the UK, the BR boxset is SIGNIFICANTLY superior to the DVD boxset in ways other than picture/audio quality. The normal DVD has barely any special features, and whilst I'm not a big special features person (though BSG is one of my fave shows ever, so I care more for this than other things)), this means you don't get any extended/uncut episodes (aside from Pegasus, and perhaps Razor). Namely, Unfinished Business from season 3, and A Disquiet Follows My Soul and Islanded on a Dream of Stars from season 4. And, the most important one (for me anyway) is you don't get the finale, Daybreak parts 1 and 2 put together, and with extended scenes, almost like a movie, on the normal DVD. (I know lots of people don't like the ending that much, but I do)

The US DVD and BR are the same in terms of special features etc, and the UK BR ports over all of these features, but they are absent on the UK DVD. Quite honestly, it was this that converted me to BR because I wanted the best version of BSG available and it got me reading up on blu-ray and deciding I want to upgrade to it in general. And as a measly student, I STILL don't even have the BSG set that started it all! (as a result, can't comment on picture quality).

I don't mind the tin, a bit different from a standard cardboard-housed collection of amrays or whatever, and it's superiority in terms of disc packaging and general look (the US one is so bulky) to the US version is obvious to me.

EDIT: I just realised you aren't from the UK and so would never consider getting the UK DVDs anyway, so sorry if this post is completely irrelevant!

My buddy just brought over season 1 on DVD this weekend. We got through mini series and about 5 episodes, I'm officially addicted. I refuse to watch anymore until I buy them all on Blu Ray....

Sadly I have a very big problem, where I am living now in these apartments the walls are SUPER SUPER thin..So I can't really watch any of my movies. My sound bar has 3 settings 1) Music 2) Cinema 3) News. So instead of getting to watch my movies on Cinema..I have to put my sound bar on News, or my crazy neighbors upstairs pound on the floor and call the cops. I'm trying to find a way to get the hell out of there, I pretty much work and love watching movies and playing the game rock band (both very loud) so the new apartment I wasn't aware had walls this thin. I'm only 26 so I haven't lived on my own THAT long so if any of you veterans have any advice I would love to hear some.

Sorry to hijack your thread buddy <3

If you check out the amazon.com listing for it, there are several pictures of the set. I just took a look at it.
