I have this for my set up--a pioneer elite vsx-94txh reciver , sony bdp-s550 blu-ray player and a ps3 and all hooked up using hdmi and set to bitstream . ALL UPDATES DONE AND UP TO DATE . and all 7.1 one speakers all hooked up
heres my ? why is it when i have Blu-ray discs that say: DTS Master Audio 7.1 (Rambo: The Flight Continues, X-Men: The Last Stand) lights on the receiver indicate that 6.1 or 7.1 are operating, but I have also bought movies The Condemned (DTS-HD High Resolution Audio 7.1) and T2: Judgement Day (DTS-HD Master Audio 6.1) they only indicate that is only playing 5.1. Has anyone else ran into problems with movies like this? I've messed with various settings and still no luck. |

To verify this hit SBCH on the remote and cycle through and set it to AUTO. Then go over and listen to your back speakers and you'll hear sound even though th elights show 5.1. Auto will detect the incoming signal and only activate the number of speakers from the incoming signal. Also my PS3 displays 7.1 on these movies. While the lights only show 5.1 the movies are encoded as 7.1, its just that the lights aren't properly working with a handful of movies that are encoded differently. Try it for yourself and search this thread for "lights" and you'll see what I mean http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...ighlight=94txh Yamaha and Onkyo have also had problems showing the correct number lights with these movies.http://forums.highdefdigest.com/blu-...nnels-ps3.html Last edited by gear; 06-09-2009 at 09:49 PM. |

The Condemned is one of a handful of dts-MA 7.1 discs known to cause a 5.1 downmix with some DTS decoders. That was a problem with the initial PS3 decoder, which was fixed with a firmware update. It looks like the decoder in your Elite AVR may have the same problem.
That particular disc was mixed with surrounds flagged for non-standard positioning (pulled back farther than normal). Some DTS decoders don't know how to handle surrounds in non-standard positions and downmix 7.1 to 5.1 as a result. The new T2 Skynet edition is causing all sorts of problems for many players, many of which can't even load the disc. Last edited by BIslander; 06-07-2009 at 10:55 PM. |

This happens to me also on Terminator 2: Skynet. I have the BDP-S350 and Onkyo TX-SR605 receiver. I am wondering if this is a problem with the player or the receiver, because the display on the player says 5.1. Anyone else with the S350 having this problem?

My ps3 info bar shows 6.1 on T2 but the receiver shows 5.1. Here's the deal, alot of these 6.1/7.1 mixes are showing 5.1 on receivers because the flags for the extr channel/s aren't being picked up. If 6.1 isn't an actual discrete true 6.1 then it has a flag for the extra channel for stuff like 6.1 es/ex mixes. This is the case with T2. Sometimes the flags aren't read properly and thus that extra channel isn't picked up. In this case just pick an ex dsp on your receiver.

Sorry to give life to such an old thread but I am having a similar issue with Rambo on Blu-Ray as well. I am only getting 5.1 DTS-HD MA playback when I should be getting 7.1. Here's the odd thing, it USED to work...I previously had PowerDVD8 Ultra installed but I recently did the upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 and got PowerDVD9 Ultra. My only other DTS-HD MA 7.1 Blu-Ray is 3:10 To Yuma and that plays back all 8 channels. Any ideas? Thanks!

I don't have the movie "condemded" but I do have the new "T2, skynet edition" movie. on my Oppo the T2 movie is sending out 6.1 DTS-HD-MA, however the receiver is only displaying that it is getting 5.1 DTS-HD-MA. I'm not sure if this is the receiver or the movie itself; i'm inclined to believe it's the movie. To check on this, i went and got my Xmen X2 blu-ray and it displayed the following: 6.1 DTS-HD-MA on both, what the player was putting out and what the receiver was getting in and putting out. I am inclined to think it is the T2 movie that is the problem. when i say problem i mean the way it's codec for 6.1 is done.
i say this because i have two movies, both putting out 6.1 DTS-HD-MA according to the display from the source, the Oppo blu player. however, on the receiver side, T2 is showing that it's getting in and putting out 5.1 and the Xmen is showing that it's getting in and putting out 6.1 and it shows in the speaker box reresentations on the display screen on the receiver. On my onkyo when something comes in as 6.1 and you have a 7.1 system (like i do) then it takes that 6th channel and puts it out across both your surround back speakers at the same time to make them sound as one speaker (channel). On a seperate not I also have the German release of "T2 Ultimate HD Edition" which is in 7.1 DTS-HD-HR (lossy, but sounds really, really good!) and it displays just like that correctly. so, i have faith in the receiver as to what it is showing. i have movies encoded in every HD Audio Codec and core codec that there is from 5.1, 6.1 & 7.1 all have displayed correctly on the receiver i have except T2-skynet edition so, i'm inclined to believe that this is a problem with the movie and the way it's audio was done. |

Not outstanding the fact that the T2 skynet in my bdp-s350 takes a year to load, it does process to my onkyo 606 fine as DTS-MA 6.1 MATRIX which if you have a DTSMA/HD receiver that is capable of processing it, depending on the connection and settings should play the 6 and 7th channel as 1 to give you the 6th of the 6.1, unless your receiver is a 6.1 direct and you have a single rear channel speaker in which case the reciever will directly output to that single rear. Other than that the other disks work fine for me
