ehh its only the B shares, the A shares are the REALLY coveted ones, still 50-1 is pretty crazy, and they are both on the rise following the split

I have a friend who had 3 shares of the B before the split. I bet he's a happy camper!

He also has a few actual paper shares of PIXAR stock around. Those are awesome.

Yeah they stopped issuing them right before the takeover by Disney. He figured it would eventually happen and ordered them ahead of time. I think he can only get his Disney stock if he turns them in though.

right, as long as he hold those certificates, he wont own the disney stock, they have to have those to cancel them before they can issue the disney stock in his name, remind him to get all the accrued dividends on the disney stock whenever he eventually turns them in

It would have to be a pretty massive split to make the class A shares affordable since they currently cost $106,999 per share.

Back in mid or late 1999, I knew someone who obtained access to their trust account and with it purchased 3 shares of these A class shares for only like $45,000 a piece. I have not spoken with him in years and dont know if he still holds them.

hopefully he either still holds them or sold them when they were close to their high point

A split is just that, a split. He didn't gain or lose anything, so I'm not sure why he'd be any happier now than before?

Cause with the split it is more affordable to people and theoretically more people will buy it driving the price up. It's always been a long term stock anyway so the more shares the merrier

Maybe it gives him a sense that the company is doing well?

I agree that it's all perceived value. Theoretically, the price usually increases after a stock split as investors become more confident regarding the company. As mentioned earlier, the stock becomes more affordable and people start buying.

There are drawbacks to stock splits such as higher trading costs because of the sheer volume that's being traded.

Also Warren isn't all too happy about the split either.
