Default Superman Ultimate Collection ?

What do you think the chances are of getting the Ultimate Superman Collection on blu-ray ? I have the set on dvd, and would really love to get it on blu-ray. I'd like the first movie to have the original 2.0 audio, but since it's blu-ray and everything has to be high-def, that probably won't happen. What do you guys think ?

someday, though I do not think I could ever sit through 3 or 4 EVER again, and the other 3 are out. IMO they need to reboot Superman like they did Batman

I have to admit I do not even really care for 1 or 2 any more and Returns was just as bad as 3 and 4 IMO. As I said before, its time for a reboot.

I really only like Superman: The movie and Superman Returns. Hopefully the next one they make won't be a sequel or complete homage or whatever Returns was.

Superman was a big enough franchise that they will all be released but I would guess no new transfers for the films already released and 3&4 (my guess) will not have top notch attempts.

Yeah. I'd love to have the theatrical cut of the first film with the original Dolby Surround TrueHD track. Being the fan I am, I'll buy the biggest baddest boxset they put out. I have a soft spot for III and IV. And the extended cut of Returns with the return to Krypton scene would be wonderful.

It would be nice to have the original theatrical cuts of Superman I & II...
Superman III is a guilty pleasure purchase, besides the best part of III is the scenes with Clark vs Superman.

Superman IV only if it is original cut which is about 150 min, I think? and perhaps if Supergirl was an added bonus.....

These were originally to come out at the time of the introduction of hddvd and bluray. We got the directors cut of Superman and Donner's Superman 2. The theatrical cut of Superman used a newer master so was a bit sharper. deluxe versions of Superman and Superman 2 would be nice and Superman is lacking extras from the dvd.

A few years ago, this set was inquired about at one of the Home Theater Forum's periodic online chats with the "powers that be" at Warner Home Video. The Warner rep was very (IMO, insultingly and condescendingly) dismissive of the request, saying something along the line of "Why would we do that? We just released it shortly ago on DVD...that should suffice. We'd rather concentrate on new stuff!". Which I found very peculiar (if DVD = BD, then we wouldn't have/need BD), especially when, shortly thereafter, Warner migrated the entire DVD experience of the ULTIMATE MATRIX COLLECTION over to BD...seemed rather hypocritical. I'm with you guys; Warner's missing quite an opportunity with this franchise...

Superman represents a big revenue opportunity for WB. So of course you'll see an "ultimate" set someday. It's just a question of when.

Since I have the Christopher Reeve collection on DVD, I probably wouldn't buy a BD set unless there was a significant upgrade in clarity - which may not be possible, given how they were filmed.

In fact, my preference would be for a Superman 1 & 2 box set, which had both the theatrical and post-release versions of both films, rather than a set that includes 3 and 4.

All I want now is the theatrical cut of II. They can keep III and IV.

Not according to Donnor. I noticed when he talks about Richard Lester, he refers to him as "that other director", never by his real name. I wonder if they have a real dislike for each other or something?

The theatrical versions of I and II are a must, and a version of the Donner Cut that's actually finished would be nice too.

On the Donner Cut DVD, there's a discussion between Donner and script doctor Tom Mankiewicz about that whole drama.

I didn't get the impression that Donner hates Lester, so much as it still bugs him the way things went down. He knew he was making two GREAT films, and resented the hell out of the producers firing him 75% of the way through the second film. But as these things often do, it came down to money, as Donner was over-budget, and he refused to cut corners on making the film believable.

Several crew and cast members have publicly stated they didn't like what happened either, and that they didn't like working with Lester. (It's why Margot Kidder isn't much in the sequels; the producers were punishing her for being a public supporter of Donner.)

The Salkinds' are responsible for this unforgivable blunder... They had to know going in, to make a film about Superman, do it right, money had to be spent. Hell, hiring Marlon Brando and Gene Hackman before the lead was cast set the table for what was to come-a quality production re:an American pop icon...Donner did a superb job at a time when sfx for such films weren't quite up to the standard we see today... Wow, even if you watch Superman:The Movie today, it holds it's own against numerous productions begging for that type of quality...
