Default Panasonic BD60 vs BD35

Hi. Does anyone by chance have both to compare? I have a BD35 which cost me $345 CDN (The Incredible Hulk blu-ray included) just over 1 year ago in Nov. 2008 but I saw the newer BD60 is now only $199 CDN on sale.

Is it worth the upgrade? Anybody know about any improvement in any load times or other differences (beside Status/Display which now shows the bitrate info on the current playing disc)?

Thanks.

Ironically, load times are about the same, if not marginally better, on the 60. I'm looking to replace my 35 with some speed too, and apparently, the Sony N460 or S560 seem to be the best bets.

Cool

I happen to have both of them, I bought the BD35 last Christmas and had to send it back to Panasonic to have it repaired because it would not play all Blu-ray's. For a replacement I bought a BD60 OnLine for $130, and it has been a great buy, plays all Blu-ray's with no problems. Panasonic fixed my BD35 and now that one also plays everything. So I would buy the BD60.

Great. Don't suppose you noticed any differences/improvements in speed or other with the BD60 though? Thanks.

I would hold out until after CES. I'm sure Panasonic will have new, faster players soon.

I spoke with the head Panasonic rep (he is the Head of all the reps) at my store (Best Buy) who has already confirmed there will be at least 2 Panasonic Blu-ray player released at the beginning of Q2. One with a wireless dongle sold seperately, one with wireless capability built in. Netflix capability is also reported to be coming soon, he also hinted at a sports network of some kind being availble. I'm not sure which one though. I'm not a sports person.

I wouldn't put to much faith on Wireless, stick with Wired for a better stable connection. I think you chance Bricking your Player with a Wireless connection.

Looks like the guy I spoke with was accurate. The sports network was Fox Sports, the netflix will be added shortly. The Blu-ray players have the ability to be wireless with the dongle, or you can use the ethernet cord. Load times are improved as well...awesome job Panny!

I have both the 35 and the 60. They are about comparable in most features. The 60 has a low power mode that it reverts to if not used for a time (I believe this can be toggled off if desired). The 60 has also added a thumb drive port which the 35 didn't have. A thumb drive can be used for music and JPEG files, basically replacing a CD or DVD for those purposes. The thumb drive cannot be used for motion files although the SD card can (but it can't be used for music files). Both players have the same outputs on the back and the display is about the same. I would go for the 60 because of its newer features if it is available for a lower cost. I know the 35s went sky high in price just before the 60 was introduced but that was because of demand and Panasonic had under-produced 35 units. Another thing to consider if you haven't pulled the pin yet is the next generation, the BDT-350 player which will have 3D playback abilities, if you think that will be important to you when 3D gets here.

I don't supposed you asked if the secondary audio on/off will still be on the main setup menu. This is probably by biggest pet peve with the panasonic BD60. If you want HD audio you can't have the secondary audio on and vice versa, and to change between them you have to go to the main setup menu (with the long load time this is really annoying). Being able to toggle between them without having to stop the disc would be nice.

i have both as well, they are not significantly faster than one another. speed-wise, load time, same (virtually identical).

goto page 1 of this post for clocked load times and also picture of the upcoming BD65!!!!

i'm just hoping they do a BD85 or somn like that w/3-D =)

My older Panny BD player did that, when the tech support couldn't get it to unfreeze either he gave me an authorization number to send it to their service center. They fixed it the day they got it and overnighted it back to me.

Is yours no longer under warranty?
