Default Best Buy: Good or Bad?

I'm getting ready to buy a new 32" LCD TV for my mom. Is Best Buy a good place to buy a TV? Any good experiences? Any horror stories? Please tell all, good or bad.

Thanks

I have been shopping at Best Buy for many years. Their prices on items like blu-rays can sometimes vary and are sometimes considerably more than Amazon and other places, especially on catalog titles. But when it comes to appliances, I find it one of the best places to buy. For one thing, the reward zone program, free to join, can be handy when you're going to buy big items anyway. More importantly, though, they price match other stores so you're guaranteed to get the best price. I have bought my last 2 TV's from them for these reasons and will probably buy my next one from there as well.

I agree with everything jsummers said. They're not the first place I go for blu-rays, but they carry the latest and greatest TVs in the store and I've always found them to be reasonable price-wise on big electronics. I've also bought my last 2 TVs from them, as well as a spare bedroom TV. When I bought my current TV from them I had them price match Circuit City's price and used a 12% off coupon. I ended up saving about $850 from retail. They didn't want to price match and let me use a coupon on one purchase because they said I couldn't use two promotions at one time. At the customer service desk they decided that price matching is a policy and not a promotion so I was able to do both.

What do you mean if Bestbuy is good or bad. Ofcourse is good! If there was no bestbuy. You’ll be buying your TV at target or kmart and you know what that means poor selection. Bestbuy is the Best!!!!

i'm not asking them to, nor did i expect them to. just see little reason to throw perfectly good money away buying locally.

If you buy locally you can return or exchange the product much easier. I recently exchanged speakers at BB and it was relatively easy; no hassle with returning to an online seller.

I am very happy with my BB experiences although you should be well informed before you go there as you can end up spending more money on things you don't necessarily need.

It would be nice if CC was still around as there would be more competition and selection.

I never buy an expensive item from BB. For my TV I purchased from
http://www.6ave.com/shop/home.aspx

Great price, no taxes, most of the time free shipping, factory authorized dealer. If something goes bad with the TV, call the manufacturer and they fix it under warranty.

I was really happy with the 32" Insignia TV I bought on sale for $400 at BBuy. I also sprung for the extended warranty - I know they can be a ripoff, but it was an extra $40 to ensure I have a working TV for the next four years. I've had good luck with BBuy extended warranties in the past and thought it was a good buy. Plus, if the TV has to go in for service, they leave you a loaner.

Same here. I can't imagine buying a TV mail order. What a crazy mess that could turn into! I'm sure most transactions go just fine, but if something goes wrong with my TV, I want to be able to pick it up and walk into the store I bought it at to get it fixed.

I say good! Cause when it comes to online sales, sometimes the shipping and handling charges are higher than the taxes that I would pay!!! Another thing I love is the 30 day price match they have!! I bought Boogie Nights at full price, waiting for a deal elsewhere and Sears.com had it listed for 18.89 last night!! Went to Best Buy today and I got back my difference!!! ... The Best Buy by my pad has always been painless for me!! So that also makes it easier for me to say good!!!!

I bought my TV from Best Buy and got the Black Friday price. It was the best price on a 32 inch 1080p TV for 497.99. I have always enjoyed buying from BB and price matching with them. Sign up for the rewards program and you can get gift cards

I tried to buy my sony bravia at Best buy a few years ago the guy said they had to check to see if there was one in stock, 25 minutes later no one to be found so I walked out. I get in my car to leave and theres the guy out having a cigerette. Ive had so many poor service related issues with the best buys in the area I wont shop there anymore. went to circuit city to see if they had it and they did. purchased the TV the guys loaded it into my truck and not even a thank you from anyone. Went back into the store and returned the television on the spot and told the manager why. he didnt even seem to care. ended up getting it online for much cheaper anyways.

I'd prefer to buy locally to keep the stores in business, but I've know three people including myself who have purchased TV's through Onecall.com that have had no issues at all.

In order to get the set fixed, most stores will not take it back unless they have a repair facility, or if they do, they send it out to that repair place. Under warranty, the manufacturers will either have someone come to your house.....a local contractor.....of they will ask you to bring it to a local repair shop.

I know that choice is limited, but one of the best places to purchase a TV is Costco. They give you a 90 day return window and add an extra year onto the manufacturer's warranty.

Best Buy is hit or miss. I've had good and poor experiences with customer service.

You can often get as good if not a better deal than Amazon. Just picked up my receiver $50 less than amazon.

I Love it, I always buy there, and their prices are very good, specially if you don't want to wait. Just investigate before hand what you want to buy, then go to the store with a clear idea of what you want, and get it!
