Question help with best crossover and misc settings for my complete setup

Hi guys, kind of a lurker here, and a new guy in the home theater game, but a big fan and hoping to learn. over the past couple weeks I have been completing my home theater setup but still dont understand the nuances of achieving the most optimal sound you can get from a system. But i was wondering if maybe you fine people could point me in the right direction. Oh and I ran the auto calibration from my receiver and came out with the fronts at 40hz, rears at 40hz, the center set to "Large", and the sub set to "Present".

Receiver: Harman Kardon AVR 254
Center: Polk CS10
Fronts: Polk TSi400s
Rears: Polk TSi100s
Sub: Polk PSW111

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey, you're off to the races on your setup.

There's a world of information here, mostly in the form of stickies, published by our resident HT moderator Big Daddy.

One of the most useful (I think) is THIS ONE.

In a nutshell, you should set all of your speakers to SMALL (even though they are towers, this has to do with how the receiver manages their output). Probably set your crossovers to 80 hz for all speakers.

Your goal is to have all your speakers and sub blend together so they don't stand out by themselves. One of the best ways to do this is to get an SPL meter from Radio Shack ($49.99) and calibrate so that all speakers register the same level at your listening position. I set mine at 75 dbs for all speakers, with the sub up around 80. Read THIS sticky on calibrating with an SPL meter. This was the single most important thing I did to improve the overall sound in my setup.
