Default THE THIN RED LINE coming to Blu this year?!

This was posted over at criterionforum.org:

Quote:
I can't disclose too much information, but a source has told me that Criterion is in the middle of restoring The Thin Red Line under supervision of Terrance Malick and they hope to get it out by the end of the year. This source is extremely reliable so I would believe what they say.
I know there's a separate thread for Criterion stuff, but I figured this movie would have a broader fanbase beyond the people who post in that thread.

Looks like we could be getting TTRL by the end of the year!!!

That would be really awesome. I know there was quite a bit of footage cut out of the theatrical version of the film, so hopefully we'd see that in some form or another. A Criterion release of The Thin Red Line would also dovetail nicely with the Tree of Life, which presumably will release sometime this year (Cannes?), but who knows. Thanks for posting this!

I would agree that this film was underrated. While it was a Best Picture nominee that year, being released the same year as Saving Private Ryan has really caused this one to fly under the radar, IMHO.

Yes that abomination of a film Shakespeare In Love won Best Picture that year. Then again the English Patient also won Best Picture, so it's hard to take the Academy seriously.

Good news! I can understand why many don't enjoy Malick's style but I do.

Best war movie ever! Hans Zimmers' amazing music makes this one of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen!

Schindler's List and Full Metal Jacket may be stronger war movies, but the mood and atmosphere of The Thin Red Line is just awesome!

Would love to see this on Blu-ray.

Good to hear, a great film! And big bonus marks with Criterion and Malick overseeing the quality...

This is obviously great news, and makes me happy as a clam! The Thin Red Line is an excellent film, and I cannot wait to add it to my Blu-ray library. One thing I want to see someday is Malick's original six hour cut of the film, but I don't think we'll ever be able to get that unfortunately.
