Hey folks. Just purchased the Waiting... disc to check out the 7.1 uncompressed audio track
![]() ![]() I have a PS3, a Yamaha RX-V2600 receiver, HDMI connection, and my output set to "Linear PCM". Do the surround back channels need to be set on "Matrix" or "Non-Matrix", and what's the difference? ![]() Any ideas? Thanks guys!!!! |

What do you mean, "no voices"? Unless the mix has voices in the surround channels, it won't be there. Voices are usually fixed to the center channel with some directional effects on the left and right channels, and occasionally the surrounds.

Actually, the speaker display on my receiver lights up to show which speakers are receiving signal. When I select the 7.1 uncompressed track, there are no speaker lights on the front of my receiver, almost like its not receiving any signal. I have no idea how to fix this....I know that my speakers areconfigured correctly, andI have performed a test tone to make sure all wires are hooked up.

Matrix means that the surround back channels are derived from the surround channels. Non-matrix means that the receiver is not doing any processing of the 7.1 audio.
Set it to non-matrix or Auto if you have it (so that the receiver can do matrix surround processing on 5.1 PCM audio). fuad |

Sound is normal...but I wanted to try the 7.1 since I haven't seen a true 7.1 disc.

Then I am at a loss. So none of the speakers light up? I have 2 Yamaha recievers so I know what you're talking about with the speakers lighting up. I believe the 2600 is a "real" 7.1 reciever, right? As in it actually accepts PCM 7.1. If you go into the audio set up on the PS3 and let it do its auto detection for the HDMI out, does it actually come up with PCM 7.1? I know my reciever (HTR-5990) only accepts PCM signals up to 5.1, but even if it's 7.1 it still just accepts it as 5.1.

In the PS3 audio detection, it just comes up as 5.1, and not 7.1. I guess thats the issue? How disappointing....I dont understand why it will not accept the signal...

This doesn't mean anything. I have the Onkyo 805 HD 7.1 receiver, and my PS3 is not able to detect it properly either. Just configure your PS3 manually and check all the surround formats your receiver can handle.

Actually, some recievers do not accept true 7.1 signals. Most don't. I have a 7.1 reciever and it doesn't accept 7.1 PCM. It just uses Dolby Pro-Logic IIx to make it 7.1. So chances are, your reciever doesn't actually accept 7.1 PCM. However! You will still get the 5.1 PCM track out of it. I also have Waiting and I still can use the 5.1 PCM. Had you done the auto detect before playing Waiting? If you have PCM 7.1 turned off on the PS3, perhaps it will work?

My 805 processes the 7.1 track from the PS3 game Motor Storm, all speakers lit up on front of the receiver, but I haven't tried a real 7.1 movie. Interesting. |

Both the Onkyo 605 and 608 are 7.1 pcm capable... the onkyo 604 on the other hand, is 7.1 (surround) but only 5.1 pcm capable. To know what pcm it is capable of, you need to know the multichannel input , some sites show this, some do not, as well as find it in the manual. |

Thanks guys...all helpful advice. However, I readthe owners manual front to back, and found that even though the RX-V2600 is a 7.1 capable receiver, it will only accept 5.1 channels of uncompressed PCM. What a bummer! nd to think I paid $1100 for it last year...Anybody interested in it? I will probably end up selling it. Its a shame, becuase that thing rocks the house!! (130 watts X 7!!!!)

![]() yes. Owners Manual pg.34 Supported Audio Formats - • 2-channel linear PCM (32–192 kHz, 16/20/24 bit) • Multichannel linear PCM (7.1 ch, 32–192 kHz) • Bitstream (Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio, DTS-HD Master Audio) Your DVD player must also support HDMI output of the above audio formats. |
