Default 15th Anniversary Edition for ID4?

2011 is the 15th Anniversary of '96's ID4, and since its 2008 BD release wasn't the Special Edition extended cut, I'm wondering maybe if they'll come out with a new release next year that will include both cuts just like the old 5-star edition DVD did back in the day.

Any word if this is at all possible?

And while we're at it, what about Cameron's "The Abyss"? I say this because these were two movies that FOX made in widescreen VHS in clamshell cases back in the late '90s.

Fox promised a new special edition for Alien vs Predator in 2008 but it never materiialized. So take that into accound when hoping for Fox to re-release a title on Blu-ray Disc.

As for The Abyss... One Word: Awaiting James Cameron Approval.

I never even knew there was an extended cut of ID4. How much extra footage is added?

I've been anxiously awaiting The Abyss. It makes it even worse that it never even got an anamorphic DVD release, but if they don't release the extended version I probably still won't buy it.

Well, yeah, the 5-star edition had it. About 8 or 9 minutes depending on how you round off the seconds. One such added scene is where Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum are in the alien fighter ship where they pre-plan the virus attack.

Yeah, kind of crazy that that one never got a proper DVD release.

I think you mean four words...

But this is a good point. Plus unless they're planning on doing something for both DVD and Blu-ray (provided DVD is still big around then) I wouldn't bet on it.

A little OT, but never understood why they called it ID4. Wasn't ID enough? lol

Strange question. It's not like you asked if your Blu-rays could be made edible, you just asked if a title could be released. Of course it's possible.

It's possible, but unlikely.

You mean you never saw ID1-3? They were a lot better than the 4th one, the series had dropped off by that point.

You'll have to ask the marketing department.

Acronyms always look better with 3 or more letters.

You live in the US, have seen the film, & don't get it? lol

I do hate it when they do those abbreviated titles like that, ID4 being the worst of 'em since it sounds dumb. I believe Dr. Dolittle 2 was DR2.

Of course I get the whole July 4th being the actual Independence Day, but 4 has no place in the title, just like the 2 has no place in the title above ^ lol.

Can someone post a detailed list of what was extra in the extended version?

I didn't realise the BR only had the theatrical. Which I'm fine with and might pick up this week. Would still like to know what's missing though.

I think its inevitable Fox will double-dip on this soon.
All those extras they left out of the BR that were on previous DVD releases, plus that extended cut.

Wouldn't be surprised if they've put together a new retrospective either. Would be very interesting to see all involved looking back on what the film did when it came out. People forget just how enormous that film was. It was Avatar sized in 1996.

I've somehow managed to never see this movie, but I bought it at Wal-Mart last night for $12.

Well...actually there is an anamorphic wide-screen edition of The Abyss. That is the China version DVD and it's 171 min (special edition) but without any extras. So let's just wait for the Blu-ray

This is one of those movies that I will never purposefully watch but will watch it when I see it on TV.
