Default Are you discriminating when buying blus?

I remember when I collected DVDS I would often get movies even if I hadn't seen them, figuring if I didn't like it I'd just get rid of it either to a friend, or to a pawn shop or whatever.

With Blus though I find myself 99.9% of the time buying something I've already seen and know I like. I won't pick up movies that I don't see myself watching repeatedly.

And I don't really get TV series on Blu, with very few exceptions of shows I intend to get.

I mean, as of right now I have 15 titles in my collection, and only one of those (CJ7) I haven't seen yet.

What about you guys?

Sometimes a blind buy is too risky for the money. I think in the back of a lot of minds the thought of how long will this media last? creeps in and maybe we are sometimes hesitant to throw cash at blind buys.

I'm not saying I'm just saying.

Wow, you're a Guru been around for 2 years and you only have 15 BDs in your collection!!! That's some serious restraint, I can't say I'm quite that picky I guess.

lol.

There's a handful of blus I want but just haven't bought yet. I want the Godfather Restoration (or at the very least Godfather 1 & 2 Sapphires) and a few others.

I would say I'm pretty discriminating. I think I've only blind bought one or two movies out of all the blu-rays I own. IMO they're just to expensive to take a chance on a movie I haven't seen.

I never have and never will blind buy. I set reasonable limits to how much I'm willing to spend on any particular movie. I buy second-teir movies used on eBay. If it's under $10 (i.e. Heathers) I might buy it even if I know I won't watch it but maybe once.

Once DVDs were consistently on sale for $4-5, I started to buy movies I hadn't seen before, if I heard good things about them, or they had some sort of other appeal.

For example, I like Kevin Spacey, so I started buying any movie he was in, if it was on sale for $5. Now, sadly, I have K-Pax sitting on my shelf.

With Blu-ray, I won't let that happen again. Everything I've purchased I've seen before, and really liked (just liking it isn't enough). It's sort of like a "best of" version of my DVD collection.

I don't spend more than about $12-13 per movie, with rare exceptions (Wizard of Oz when it first came out, for $35 at Target... but I had a Target giftcard that I never planned on using, and Godfathers 1 and 2 for $15 each at Target a few weeks ago).

I will blind buy movies that seem to be in the genre I enjoy, like Jewel of the Nile.. LOL.

But otherwise, I'd rather have seen the movie in theatres or just seen it before.

If I really want a movie I will buy it right off. If I am unsure, or Macruz gets it first, hehe, then I can wait and see if it is worth me buying. Like Pandorum, I was going to get it, decided to wait to see it with Macruz, ended up not finding it to my tastes.

BUT, the exception for me are Collector's Editions and Steelbooks. If it is a disney SB, I have to have it, no questions asked, I will not even sleep the night before. Must have it.

If it is a really good Collector's edition, like nice bonuses, good art, good movie, I find myself pulled into getting it (Gone with the Wind, Wizard of Oz, Casablanca).

Take for example, I just bought Planet of the Apes Collector's Edition. Saw it in Bestbuy for gobs of money and just couldn't rationalize parting with the cash. SO, as soon as I saw it posted on sale (today...) I bought it.

Or a toy... I eat happy meals for toys and I buy blurays for the toys.

Like the transforming Bumblebee case.. Star Trek...or the Dark Knight... or the Puzzlebox. All because they were toys...

Perhaps I should see a doctor for this... HAHAH. oh how I love my Blus.

I started out buying movies I liked but did not own on DVD. Then I moved to buying my favorites DVD's on BD. Then I started buying anything that looked good on BD. Next thing I knew, I had over 300 BD's.

I have recently slowed down my purchasing. Especially since when I started buying BD's I said I would never have unopened/unwatched BD's. I just looked at my shelf and would probably say at least 100 of the BD's I won now fall into the unopened/unwatched category.

I always research before I buy. I generally get movies that I'll either know I'm going to like or if I've already seen them. Don't do to many blind buys, but every once in a while when I have some spare money I'll go out on the edge. Not very often, but it's happened.

I buy Blu-rays regardless of the race/ethnicity/religious affiliation/sex/creed/sexual orientation of the actors/actresses/director/or person selling them.

[Show spoiler] Now socks are a completely different story..... I'm very particular about who I buy my socks from...... NEVER THE IRISH ! (this is all in jest of course....... the Irish reference is a round-about Blazing Saddles reference)

I am at the very least slower in my purchases. Two years into DVD I was already past 400-500 movies. Reaching 2 years into BD and I am just reaching 150.

I think the fact for me is that certain movies I already own on DVD and as such will not be upgrading them back to BD. Unlike when DVD got around, there was still lots and lots of movies that never even made it to VHS and so it was interesting to get themon DVD. I can't speak for everyone but I am looking now at upgrading older movies on BD, more quality movies like GWTW or Casablanca as example

I very rarely buy blu-ray movies. I don't see the point. I pay $18 a month for a 3 movie out plan from blockbuster online. Works for me.

How often do most people watch these movies anyway? Save your money and buy better gear I say.

I like being able to watch any movie I have loved at any time. I don't want to wait for it in the mail or have to go out to get it. I just never know what mood will strike

I can't say I really enjoyed collecting good movies until blu-rays. Before I had some good dvd's, bust mostly garbage.
