to start, i have a 42 inch vizio L42 native res 720p/1080i and a ps3 hooked up through hdmi. i have it set on 1080p and it displays great for games. but on blu ray sometimes the background is blurred while rest is normal. sometimes the picture is stunning like if theres water or something. could this be because its not a true 1080p display and its just upconverting or something?
AS I PUT MORE THOUGHT INTO IT, A BETTER TERM WOULD BE GRAINY, AND IVE SEEN IT ON ALL 3 BLURAYS IV WATCHED SO FAR Last edited by D1-2005; 08-06-2007 at 04:28 PM. |

Try turning off Digital Noise Reduction (DNR) if there's one.

Try setting the PS3 output to 1080i since this is the maximum resolution of your set. Using 1080p introduces variables like 24 fps, color enhancement, etc which your tv very likely does not support. Good Luck!!

Since I have a 1080i TV, after reading this post I ran right out to my PS3 and tv and checked my settings. Under display settings it is recognized as HDMI 1080i but under BD/DVD settings it is set to automatic for 1080p recognition. Should I turn this setting to Off? I assume this is what you could be talking about? I don't see any blurring or anything out of the ordinary, but I would like to have my PS3 optimized for best viewing option.

If you set it to auto it's supposed to check/sync with the display and give you the max res your display can handle. The manual setting (where you check and uncheck resolutions) forces it to use what you tell it too (So for example if you have a 1080p tv you can force to output 720 or 480 and you could see how those resolutions look etc.)
Also remember there's a difference between a TV that accepts 1080i and has a panel that's 1080 x 1920 and a TV that accepts 1080i (or even 1080p) and has a 720 x 1280 panel or 768 x 1366 panel etc. On those you might try seeing if the 1080 setting works better or the 720 (and check that with both 1080p24 discs and 1080i60 discs). Maybe that could help with the OPs pixelation? |
