Default Onkyo 805 volume level

Just pruchased the ONKYO 805....it is SWEET!!!!!!!!

I have noticed on issue, and I was wondering if anyone else had the same problem.....does the dialog seem a bit muted on your setup? I have adjusted the center level, but it still seems somewhat muted.

Thoughts?????

what guage speaker wire you using? have a firm connection, positive into positive, negative into negative? maybe try turning down the other speaker dB levels

also, what sound mode are you using? DD PrologicII,Neo,THX...etc?

(and what audio source are you refering to? a dvd,bluray...etc?)

I have the 605 and used the Auysssey set up for all my speakers and it did a pretty good job balancing all of my speakers out. Did you use the calibration on the Onkyo or did you manually calibrate?

Also I do use heavy gauge speaker connects so that helps out a lot.

not too mention on most movies, the musical sounds (instruments) are usually higher than the dialog. (watching 300 I noticed the dialog was real low at points and then real high in others, and I found myself adjusting the +dB level for center channel)

Dialoge "bounce" on the Center is a long standing HT issue. I am very picky about this and still find myself having to +/- the Center db for various disks. I have had this problem over the years on Pioneer, Denon, you name it. I don't own any Onkyo currently, but can appreciate your predicament. Even certain segments on individual disks can exhibit +/- db issues like cracknhedz metioned. Try calibrating with various disks to get a happy medium. Or use the Audyssey feature as was suggested.

EDIT: if your gut is telling you something is wrong, exchange the unit. maybe it's defective. are you using the same wires/speakers as your previous setup??

The Onkyo has a built-in calibration system, have you run it?

What speakers do you have left, right and center?

Default THX Test on T2 and Disney DVD's

Try the THX set up on T2 or any Disney DVD. The 605 calibration system is great but sometimes the room or your ear doesn’t agree with the systems calibration. In a around a 15' by 20' room i have the center set on +2dB and the rears set on +10dB and the fronts set on around +8dB. I like to hear the surround ambient noise. In the movie Crash, the ambient music really set a tone for the drama. If you can get your hands on Monsters calibration DVD, it works well.
This one on Amazon is around $20. I’m sure if you looked you could find it cheaper.
