Default Cheers

I just watched Cheers on HDNet and it looked fantastic. It is ready for a Blu release (I'm assuming that at least a season or two are already converted, since I checked and saw that the show is a new regular on the channel). It was in widescreen but it didn't look bad at all and I'm sure they thought ahead to make a 1.33 version and a 1.78 version. Anyone else see Cheers on HDNet and got an opinion?

I stumbled across this old thread. I too am a Cheers fanatic and was blown away by the quality of the shows on HDNet. The best part being that they weren't edited or altered (mainly the music) like the DVD's were. I would love a complete series set on Blu-ray with commentary as well as each episode as it was when it originally aired. Despite it's popularity back in the 80's, I don't think it would sell well. As a matter of fact, I believe I read somewhere that the DVD's didn't even sell well.

I'd call the 1.78:1 aspect ratio an alteration.

This and X-Files would be great for me! Altough I don't hold out much hope for the latter, Cheers might be a good possibility.
Makes me think back to dvd, and when older TV seasons were released right around this time in it's lifecycle...so who knows! Fingers crossed!

You should get it on Vudu. Amazon is only 720.

Hmm, wow. Didn't realize this was already available in some form of HD. It was a bit 'before my time' (might have caught a few of the last season or two's episodes as a child) but it's one of those shows where I can definitely see what the lasting appeal was all about.

Just been watching a few episodes on ITV4 HD here in the UK and they look fantastic.

Would gladly pay a small fortune for all 11 Seasons on BD.

ITV4 here in the UK have screened all 11 seasons now and they all look amazing. A few SD inserts but few and far between. Really hoping for a Blu announcement soon. Best TV show ever :-)

I loved Cheers on its original UK broadcast but over the years it's skipped down the list of my fave US sitcoms.
I'd put its own spin-off Frasier above it now, I could watch Frasier all day every day.
Roseanne is my second fave US sitcom.

I'd be happy to re-watch Cheers again.....in HD.

I haven't watched it since I was a kid, but every now and then the theme song pops into my head, and it always makes me happy

The song totally transports me back to the 80s, Friday nights 10pm. Looking back I don't think I got every gag (I was only about 15) but I remember loving Carla.

The wife and I took a New Years trip to Boston for the 2010 Winter Classic at Fenway(best hockey game I've ever seen, even though my Flyers lost), and we spent New Years eve at the Bull & Finch Pub(the bar on which the show was based). Then after the game, we went to the bar that was a replica of show in Faneuil Hall(sp?). Great ciy, great time, great show! Get this on blu-ray ASAP!

Would love to go to Boston and have a beer in the Bull & Finch. I've contacted CBS via their Facebook page a few times to ask if there are any plans to release Cheers on BD. Always falls on deaf ears

I'm a little over fanatical over the show, grew up with it from the age of 7 till it finished when I was 18 so it'll always be quite special to me, even named my little boy Sam after the great Mr Malone

Though I grew up in the '80's, for some reason I never really watched Cheers (other than bits & pieces) until this year. And, can't believe I didn't see it earlier; extremely funny show with great characters & good stories; the writing is fantastic as well.

Which leads me to a question: I'm currently streaming the first season, and the quality is honestly not that great. It looks pretty close to how it appeared like on network TV back in the day, i.e. "soft" PQ. I haven't seen the show on DVD, so was just wondering what the PQ looked like there? I know the show was filmed (and/or edited) on video, and therefore has the "soft" look that a lot of '80's/'90's sitcoms have....

That being said, from the OP on this thread, it looks like the show would be a vast improvement on Blu...
