there are a few people that have the both on here. I have the Sony 920 which is similar to the DN1000, I believe the 920 has been considered a little better receiver esp on the upscaling factor, however I know that my 920 was using the same powersupply and amp that the es2400 had, It would be my guess that the DN1000 is still using a different amp and powersupply given that it still weighs about 10 pounds more then the 800 series.
I would suggest that you get the DN1000 over the 800. When I went from the 710 to the 920 I could tell there was more power and it was sharper, fuller sounding. Plus you get the GUI. Sony receivers are easy to setup, really plug and play. I have found mine to be quite reliable and they don't get hot like Onkyos. Matrixing is nice and easy. DH800- http://www.amazon.com/Sony-STR-DH800-7-1-Channel-Audio-Receiver/dp/B001YQ9T8I/ref=cm_cr-mr-title
DN1000- http://www.amazon.com/Sony-STR-DN1000-7-1-Channel-Audio-Receiver/dp/B001TP4RRC/ref=pd_cp_e_1 nice price drops on both. can't lose either way. i was not interested in upconversion, all of my toys have hdmi. the power is the same too. compare here: http://reviews.cnet.com/av-receivers...=mncolBtm;rnav Last edited by dvs1270; 01-19-2010 at 12:24 AM. |

Ditto, I went with the STR-DH800 over the STR-DN1000. didn't really want the AVR to do anything but pass the Video signal along.
I've had about 2 weeks now. sounds great, but I can't get the auto calibration thing to pass. keeps giving me a E -F 33 error code. I think it is trying to say the front speakers aren't there. |

had mine(1000) for about a week and loveit. I'm no audiophile or videophile by any means but to me the picture and sound on blurays is outstanding. The only complaint I have is when watching TV the volume changes dramaticly when switching from program to commercial or none HD programming. It something I can live with..got mine for $318 plus $4.55 2 day shipping from Buy.com

Just got the STR-DH800 and I love it, sounds great, I didn't really find the need for the 1000, the GUI I can really live without, don't really hook my iPod up to it, only sometimes, and I like the look of the 800 more than 1000 and the look of the 800 fits more with my stuff
