In a conference during the CES fair shortly after the announcement of the four-week window, Netflix CEO Reed Hasting noted that not many people were getting Warner new releases in the first 28 days anyway, and stated that Warner titles should be "fully in stock" after 28 days.
Okay, now's when we find out. It's been four weeks since The Invention of Lying and Whiteout (the first new releases of the new regime) came out for sale. They should be readily available now – right? So: please log in to Netflix, look up The Invention of Lying and Whiteout and post their availabilities here. This thread will be de-stickied in 48 hours. Thanks for your help! |

Funny topic.
I think Whiteout is the film that inspired the month long delay as they (WB) were hoping that reducing rentals would help cash in and sell some copies based on the Beckenhot factor. And... Netflix never bothered to explain the new policy to customers. They suggest that movies are simply "un-available" and figure people either can't be bothered to figure it out or just won't notice. I'm still agitated by Netflix with the idea to do this. ... I need to let it go but I liked Netflix right up till they did this. -Brian |

I don't have Netflix at the moment but I don't see how they can assume the title will be more readily available after a 28 day wait? Are they assuming people are going elsewhere to rent it so the demand is less? If that is the case can't see why they agreed to it assuming their business would go elsewhere. The other case could be Warner is providing them copies at greatly reduced price and they are able to buy more copies.
I know waiting 28 days for titles like Whiteout or Invention of Lying is no big deal as they aren't mainstream hits. The real test will be to see what happens when a flagship title like Harry Potter or Batman are released and people have to wait 28 days and then see what availability is like once they have it. |

As much as this bothered me... It had it's effect.
I don't rent Blu Rays anymore. I just buy them. If I don't like them I'll sell them back. This 28 day window makes me crazy mad but ![]() ![]() -Brian |
