Default Is it just me or are the studios being deceptive?

Now, maybe there are some compression issues that are the cause of it... but it seems like studios put less content on discs than will actually fit to increase the number of discs to make a higher price tag more viable. Maybe?

Take the Godfather release as just one example... same number of discs as the DVD collection, why? Couldn't three films, even long ones, fit on a 50 gig dual layer disc?

If this is in fact the case, it is very disappointing. The studios expect consumers to spend extra money for their release on a superior format when the format we're paying the extra money for isn't even being utilized to its full extent. I hope that my suspicions are wrong. If not, it will make going blu much harder for me, which is sad because I'm very excited about the quality of these discs.

Well typical high quality encode with audio is 30-35 gig a POP! without HD Extra.. add HD extra.. put that at 40gig+ for a single movie.

The fact is, a GOOD HD encode takes place. Just like a good DVD encode takes 7gig..

They can fit them on...in standard definition. But if you want a 1080p picture with lossless audio it takes up a lot of space so there is no room for anything else...

And at that point why would you buy it> I would take 3 SD-dvd's over one SD-blu if the price was cheaper. Why would I spend more money to have 3 movies on one disc if the qulity was exactly the same?

I think the OP is missing the point of HD audio and video a bit.

One disc BD or three discs DVD, would probably be the same price. You are paying for the content, not for the number of discs. More discs typically means more content, thus the higher price tag.

Because then you'd have to get up out of your comfortable chair, and put your popcorn and drinks aside to change the discs... TWICE during the movie.

Even if they could fit all the content on one disc they wouldn't. Ever since the advent of DVD studios have used more discs than necessary. For whatever reason studios believe consumers love multiple discs.

I believe it all boils down to the customers perception. In putting out multiple discs unneccessarily the consumer feels they are getting a better value. More bang for their buck so to speak.
