The new iMacs have been announced!!!!
First, the bad news for you Blu-geeks: NONE of the new iMacs are Blu-Ray capable. Still the same CD/DVD SuperDrives. Now the good news (especially for me.....well, almost): You can choose the Intel Core 2 Duos that run even faster than the 1st generation Intel-based iMacs. Or you can go with the Intel Core 2 Extreme (a first for Apple). Only caveat about the Core 2 Extreme -- it is the dual-core version and NOT the quad-core version. Dammit!! SOOOOO close!!!! ![]() But I will gladly opt for the Core 2 Extreme in my new iMac next spring. ![]() The new iMacs will be available in 20 and 24 inch versions (no more 17 inch versions, kids), and they will start out at $1199 and $1799, respectively. Lastly, these most basic forms of the new iMac have awesome amounts of internal memory and pretty big hard drives (you, of course, can always opt for more memory and even more insanely HUGE hard drives).
