Default Rumor: Blu-ray Support Coming to iTunes 9 and iMacs

Quote:
Blu-ray Disc Apple has long dragged its feet when it comes to Blu-ray, but that might be about to change. According to news site Boy Genius Report, BD support is one of the features being added to iTunes 9. Additionally, a recent post on Apple Insider reports about Apple integrating Blu-ray into their new iMac line-up.

An announcement might happen as early as September.
Ok so what exactly does this mean, that iTunes 9 will include BD support, does this mean the HD content on iTunes will now be 1080p instead of just 720p?

I think it's BG talking out their ass. However if it is true, the only thing I could think of would be Managed Copy support, which I thought was dead anyway.

This rumor creeps its ugly head up every fall, right before Apple announces the next year line-ups, or sometimes right before MacWorld. I've been itching for a BD SuperDrive since 2007. I'll believe it when I see it, but if it happens, I'll gladly sell my wife's iMac, give her mine, and buy a new one for me.

Not to change the subject, but hopefully with their new line they will include the option for a slot load BD-R drive in the 17" MacBook Pro, since Dell has discontinued their top of the line XPS M1730 laptop.

Does this mean that they could possibly put the digital copy on the actual Blu-ray disc itself instead of putting it on an entirely separate disc trying to pass it off as a 2 disc special edition.

I just don't see this happening because as far as I know there has been no rumours of Blu-ray in the Snow Leopard betas. Since it is due out next month any support for Blu-ray drives would need to be included in the OS.

They still wouldnt do that because not every PC would have a BR drive.

And most Blu-ray buyers don't care about having digital copies sooooo.... That is my point. I just hate how studios sometimes market these movies as a 2 disc special edition when the second disc is a digital copy that I won't use.

Well most shows are shot for HD these days at least the high rated ones. As far as them getting released on Blu-ray it is just hard for them to do that because they would cost so much to put out this point and since they are so expensive there is not going to be huge sales for them. But the Blu-ray consumers are growing so we should see more and more shows getting released on Blu-ray.

And I don't hate digital copies I know these days there a good amount of people that are willing to watch movies or shows on their portable devices. BUT...I don't want studios using it as an excuse to label something as a 2 disc special edition just to up the cost of the movie. Don't even bother with the digital copies if it increases costs is all I am saying.

An interesting note I saw was the fact that in Snow Leopard, as we all know will be 64-bit through and through, apparently does not have the DVD app written in 64-bits which made me wonder if they will be replacing the DVD app with a Blu-ray app that will be 64-bit.

I can dream anyway.

If Apple came out with BD player equipped laptops this would be the only reason why I would go for a new Macbook - my old one still works brilliantly. The new line of Macbooks are not really a tremendous upgrade at the moment.
