Red face American Gangster's PQ is almost Upconverted DVD. Feeling in between

Just got it at Target for $14.99 and the PQ is not what I had in mind. The picture is a little fuzzy and not as sharp as I thought it would be. Wideshots are not very detailed at times. Checked the review on here and the PQ received a 3.5, I would rate it as a good 3.0, btw my TV is perfectly calibrated. Still felt that Universal would of worked a tad bit more on this great movie.

Anyone feel the same way about the PQ?

Ah. So that was R. Scott's intention? Of course it will not look any better than how it already looks, but the fuzzy look I wasn't digging. Dont get me wrong, there are some shots that look truly Blu-ray reference, mainly face close ups.

Considering you can get this used on DVD for next to nothing I would feel violated paying 15 bucks to say I got it on Blu. That's just me.

Close. Just OK ain't OK for me. I sprung for Blu prices on Lost and quite a few others but I am not buying marginal upgrades. Just not worth it for me some others don't mind spending what amounts to 5 times or more.

It doesn't look fantastic by any means but i guess that was Ridley's intention and my opinion towards the PQ, eh . Most definitely not fantastic as Blade Runner which Warner did an absolutely fantastic job on the Blu-ray release, despite being from the 80's. Im still satisfied with American Gangster , just popping in the disc and watching a flatout intended picture was not my expectation.

I completely disagree with the poster's thread. American Gangster looks very good for what it is trying to achieve. Also it's a kick a$$ movie.

Ed Zachary. My PS3 also plays DVD's that cost 2 bucks. If the PQ is nearly the same why would I spend 15 bucks?

Im not complaining that the PQ is terrible because is not. Just letdown that it looks the way it does, not what i expected really. But if its directors intention, I can totally live with it. Like some can't live with the fact that "300" is so grain heavy. Its beautiful the way it is. Grain sets the tone right for that type of film.

For $15 I think it was a good enough deal, its more expensive in Amazon. Now, if i had already viewed this disc before I would've probably not have bought at that price. I had waited for a $9.99 drop.

Agree 100%! A faithful reproduction of the theatrical presentation. The movie looks like it is supposed to look.
