Top UK only Blus that are Region Free?

Hey All!

I took a look but didn't find a post like this.

Basically I am wondering what are the top Blu-rays to order from Amazon.uk that are Region Free and are not available in North America?

Currently I have bought the following:

Highlander

The Island

I am hoping to order up:

The Goonies

Stardust


What other ones should I consider and look to order up?

The Elephant Man (well, it's region A and B so will work in the US)

Road to Perdition (almost certain that it's region ABC as other European releases are)

Great Expectations (1946)

Withnail and I

Bridget Jones's Diary

Basic Instinct and Pan's Labyrinth are both out in the US, but the UK ones supposedly have superior transfers AND are region free.

In addition there are a few things like Matrix trilogy, Bourne trilogy, Band of Brothers, Rome, Kill bill 1&2 boxset which are exactly the same transfers, and region free, but are often cheaper than in the US when imported from the UK.

Lots of people (myself not included) also don't like the US Warner 'digibook' packaging - these are all released in the UK in standard UK amaray cases so that's something to think about as well. (examples: Goodfellas, Dr Strangelove, Amadeus, North by North West, Bonnie and Clyde, Shakshank Redemption (though this is actually a different transfer in UK), Matrix, and the upcoming Dr Zhivago, Hamlet and A Star Is Born.)

Good evening,

There are many very strong Region-Free British discs, but one film that I think belongs in every serious library is Der Untergang. a.k.a Downfall. Terrific presentation and all of the supplemental features are perfectly playable on Region-A machines (fantastic features).

The same goes for The Double Life of Veronique.

Though Black Narcissus will be released in the U.S. in July by Criterion. Worth mentioning.

Stay away from The Long Good Friday. They severely cropped the image on all 4 sides. I A-B'd it with the Anchor Bay DVD and it was a travesty.

I've considered "Downfall" many times, but never pulled the trigger.
I'm going to order it, but I just hope I can put all those youtube Hitler parodies from this film out of my mind when I watch it.
they have almost become more famous than the film itself.
interestingly enough I recently read that the copyright owner finally complained to Youtube regarding copyright issues, and all of those videos are slowly being deleted.
