Default Keep an eye on your xbox accounts

My Xbox Live account was hacked yesterday, they got me for 240 points, I don't keep a CC on the account for this reason. I called and filed an unauthorized access report and my account is locked while they investigate.

I got hit with a "Premium Gold Jumbo" charge....stupid kids.

My system hasn't been turned ON in over a month.

I've been meaning to take my CC number off my son's XBL account, but keep forgetting to. I'll take care of it tonight, for sure.

A couple weeks ago my oldest son (away at school) called me up and asked if I was at home on my youngest son's account because he was seeing his account was online, though not playing any game. As far as I could tell, no one was at home and the Xbox was off. Not sure if my youngest gave his account password to someone or not (he says he didn't), but I made him change his password as soon as he got home from school.

I bet if you are logged in via PC it shows up as online, maybe he was using a computer at school or signed in at home on the PC and just never signed out? Probably not but just a thought.

I thought of that, too, but he's never logged on to his account through a computer from what he says. I know early last year he let a friend log on to his account so the guy could play a game online (he couldn't afford hi own account) to see what it was like. Yes, I chewed him a new one for that! He claims he's changed his logon information since, but who knows?

Mine got hacked last night for three games; World Adventures, Call of Duty 4, and Sims 3, and charged them all to my credit card on file. Of course my credit card won't hold me responsible for the charges.

I was alerted when I recieved three seperate e-mails from billing@microsoft, confirming the purchases. At first I thought the e-mails were just some phishing scam, so I seperately logged into my live account and there they were. I called my CC company who also verified.

I filed a complaint with Xbox and they locked me out of my live account for at least 28 (or 22) days pending an investigation which could last longer (and keep me locked out the entire time). I've heard of people being locked out for months.

Just a bunch of d***less jerks.

For some reason my account won't allow me to remove the CC info on file. I guess it doesn't matter since the info is for a card that expired six months ago....

The investigation is worthless. I've had it done twice and nothing came of it. If you play online a lot, just tell them to skip the investigation. It does nothing but keep you from playing online. They never tell you if they caught the one who hacked your account and it takes forever. Twenty days the first time and 37 the second. Just change your Live password once a month and you will be fine.

If you're still gold, you won't be able until your subscription expires.

Oh Ok. I wasn't aware of that. I think it expires in two or three more weeks. Thanks for the explanation.

I'm glad that I never had my CC of file with XBL. I thought about doing my Paypal but after this I'm good. This has happened many times now and it's a shame.

I recall reading this on joystiq a few weeks back and surprised it wasn't mentioned here sooner.

My account got hacked just before the PSN hack so I didn't have very good luck back then. Thankfully the hacker was only sending viruses and stuff using my hotmail and didn't appear to use it for anything else even though so much more could have been done with everything linked to the same Windows Live ID. The worst part was all Microsoft did was block my e-mail account and I only found out a month after the fact when I cleared my cookies which signed me out of Xbox.com only to finally get a message about my account when I signed back in. Needless to say I wasn't happy that is all Microsoft did. For a month somebody had full access to my XBL/GFWL account, information and I do still have a credit card on file because I have had XBL from the start and never let it expire so even though I only used a credit card back on the original Xbox when it forced you to enter a credit card and have used pre-paid cards ever since it still considers the credit card linked to the subscription and I can't remove it

Microsoft Discusses Xbox Live Security Problems

I'm glad I no longer have a CC# on either my PSN or XBL account. I only but the pre-paid PSN/XBL cards and will continue to do so permanently.

saw this today

http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/09/xb...ts-for-others/

then went to here and read her story

which brought me to tradetang web site. typed in xbox and im disgusted of all the new gamertags for sale with 1 day or 2 hour warranties.

Yep I've been using prepaid cards I'd say a year after launch. I had a CC on my account but had to go to Valhalla and back to get it taken after. This was during MS's not wanting to take your CC off period in 06.

I'll never put my CC on Xbox again. Granted for some it's easier to buy stuff that way but can be unsafe. Might as well go the AMZ route and get your online codes from them.

I just went and looked at the Tradetang site It's amazing but not surprising there is a site like that out there.
