Default Someone stole my credit card number

My bank called me and someone got hold of my number and tried to purchase a $1,500 item at Best Buy somewhere. Luckily my back declined it so I didn't lose any money but I feel so helpless in a situation like this. My bank canceled my card and is sending me a new one. Don't know how they got it, but in the end I hope they rot in hell.

When I lived in Texas my Dad used his credit to order Pizza for the family. Anyways, 3 months later he gets a bill with a 5,000 dollars + attached to it. After he filed for investigation it turned out that the cashier saved the credit card number and went on a purchase rampage from best buy online.

Anyways if you did order food using your credit card this could be how they got ahold of your CC numbers. Best thing to do is follow up on your purchases and always check your charges.

Glad you got this issue worked out.

It's scary to hear someone tried to steal your identity. I'm glad it didn't work out for them.

You're legally protected against having to pay fraudulent charges made when your identity's been stolen. Furthermore it's illegal for any company or financial institution to try to strong arm you into making you think you're liable for such charges. I hope you didn't pay for anything. If this is an ongoing issue you need to file a report that you were robbed and that your identity has been stolen. You should also pull your credit report from all three major credit agencies and notify them that your identiy has been stolen. Lastly, you should consider consulting an attorney if these companies keep trying to force you to pay these charges. Despite whatever they may tell you, they CANNOT garnish your wages without a judge's order, nor can they do anything at all to you without going to court.

It happened to me on eBay. That was the last time I used eBay. Someone blew $200 off my card.

I had a nephew steal my CC one time. He and some friends were over at my place, using my comp., because his family didn't have one. I had to go out, so I left the 13-yr-olds alone. Bad move. They got a hold of my CC statement, and used my number to sign up on some porn websites. I couldn't find out how to cancel all these websites, so the only thing I could do is eat the charges and cancel the card. I learned a lesson though, never leave horny teens alone with a comp.

Mine got stolen not too long ago by someone in Idaho, or Utah, or one of those states I don't know much about.... at least that's where they used it..... (Still got my eye on Mr. Upgrade..... SeanMF )

They managed to buy $7,000 or so worth of goodies..... I didn't have to pay for any of it...... funny part though..... they were ready to write-off legitimate purchases that I made, because they thought some of my purchases were fraudulent because they were random big-ticket items..... (like a $600 set of kitchen knives) I told them they were mine though..... didn't want to chance it coming back to bite me. Would have been nice though.... could have went on a Blu-ray shopping spree

I'm glad you didn't have to pay anything, but it's a bummer you had to fight it for so long.

I had 1 or 2 situations where someone stole my CC #, and used it to play World of War Craft. I think it was a monthly bill in order to play online. Something like that I guess

Glad I work with the same company and they were able to cancel everything and convert me to a new account # and I didn't have to pay or wait.

The first time this has happened to me was that I had to dispute those chargers on my card where the fraud dept has to research before they issue a "refund". Took about a week for everything to clear up.

Been there. It happened like 3 times between my dad and brother too. That's why you get credit limits, and my bank is pretty good about checking with me first on unusual spending, especially when done online.

Recently someone got a hold of my wife's bank card # and used it to post ads? Was the weirdest thing. Not sure what they were doing posting ads. I would think they would be wanting to purchase stuff...
