Default PayPal security measure asking for CC/bank account numbers?

I'm trying to log into PayPal and I get the following message:

Security Measures

We are currently performing regular maintenance of our security measures. Your account has been randomly selected for this maintenance, and you will now be taken through a series of identity verification pages.

Protecting the security of your PayPal account is our primary concern, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

I can't proceed any further until I input my credit card number or bank account number.

This is very unsettling, as PayPal has numerously said they won't ask for such information.

Is anyone else experiencing this? I tried getting PayPal's phone number but I have to be logged in to do so, so that's a no-go.

Thanks for the reply.

Turns out the latter is what happened. My fiancee ordered something earlier this morning while at her father's house.

I did. They assured it was legit.

I tried getting to PayPal via different ways: direct link, bookmark, Google link, and link from a saved receipt in my e-mail. I got the same result with all of them.

Thanks, all!

I would have done the same thing because that sounds really screwy to me that they would ask for that information at login.

Glad it wasn't a scam and you got it straightened out.
