Default PLXll Question

Will all movies that are 5.1 play as 7.1 if PLXll is chosen on the receiver. I tried a movie that had truHD 5.1 but it did not play in all 7.1 speakers. I dont believe it had any other soundtracks maybe a Dolby digital 5.1.

On mine it does. But not all receivers which have 7.1 can do Matrixing from 5.1 to 7.1. You might want to check with the manual or other users of the same receiver. For example, I remember the Onkyo 605 (A 7.1 HD receiver) cannot do Matrixing up-converting of 5.1 to 7.1. But my Onkyo 705 can. Sort of an advanced feature for a better model.

Which receiver do you have?

It should, yes. Unless you've got a setting somewhere that is negating it. I know on my receiver, when I select ProLogic IIx, it plays everything in 7.1 (even 2.0 content). Only time it doesn't play in PL IIx is for content that is actually encoded in 7.1, and then it just plays normally (which is 7.1 anyway).

Don't forget 6.1 as well. Matrixing only works for 5.1 or less.

Hmm...

I must have it set up wrong then because it supposedly has PLllx. It is the first thing that is shown when i pop in a movie, but then it goes to watever is the prefrence like dts master audio or truhd when the actual movie starts. I figured since the PLllx is the first thing that is shown on the receiver that that is the default decoder.

I have the yamaha RXV1800 reciever

Just read this off AVSFORUMS for you:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...88942&page=101

You want to set EXTD (Extended surround) to PLIIx Movie. For some reason there are two ways to do this, either through the manual setup menu (see page 87 of the 1800 manual), or with the decoder parameter button on the remote (page 74). This will allow PLIIx to matrix 5.1 to 7.1.

You probably have the Extended Surround setting set to "Auto". You have to explicitly set it to "PLIIxMovie". Refer to page 87 in your user's manual.
