Default Capcom wrestles with Xbox 360 disc restrictions

http://kotaku.com/5474476/capcom-wre...c-restrictions

I guess Blu ray is a good idea.
I'd like to hope this doesn't translate on the PS3 getting content held back but it doesn't look to good.

Not sure why they simply couldn't extend to multiple discs....

Yea I believe Microsoft is gonna have to look at finding an alternative to DVDs because of space limitations. I dont think 3-4-5 disc sets is the answer either. I dont think this will have any effect on PS3 games because the space is there and if theres money to be made, its gonna happen

Content is always held back or not included because of disc space and/or DLC money to be made as well...No way gamers are going to liking "please insert game disc 4,5,6 now"...Unless a newer tech then blu-ray drives come out...MS is going to have to make that switch with their next console...What do others think about it...

They should have just opted for an additional disc. Royalty fees can't be that much for one disc.

Or keep the content on the PS3 version and make it a free DLC expansion on the 360.

There were solutions. Sounds to me like Capcom just wants to sell the DLC, and this makes for a good excuse.

It makes you wonder. Will MS use Blu ray next gen. I still believe the infrastructure for downloadable only content worldwide isn't established enough for them to attempt this.
If they do they alienate the used/rental market or at best dominate the rental portion. If they went downloadable only I feel it would hurt the Xbox brand as a whole.

I am not a fan of downloadable content. Having a 'hard copy' is like my security blanket, persay. I have lost data due to Hard drive crash(s) and having everything on discs made it easy to reinstall.

Its either using an expandable media or having a 1TB plus HD for all the content. I opt for the bigger disc

coming form someone who lost their HDD I could see your point. Luckily I was able to Download all the stuff I previously had with no problems other than time consumption. .

I see downloads as the future.....just not yet.

I still buy CD's and import them. lol

it's Capcom, need i say more?
game on a disc, multiplayer on another disc? do like Mass Effect and split the game in half? royalties for a 2nd disc shouldn't be much.

Licence agreements on PSN and XBL are very favourable to the end user (unlimited redownloads to a device linked to your account) but on other platforms they aren't as friendly so I can see where jw is coming from.

I suppose we're just lucky MS and Sony are decent about it.

I wish developers would start shipping games with multiple discs; one being the "play disc" and the others being the "install discs," similar to many PC games. I wouldn't mind installing 10 gb of data to my hard drive to play the game without disc swapping. Then I could just delete it after I finish the game. Of course, this method wouldn't work on the arcade.

For that method to work properly they would have to log the "install discs" serial to prevent it from being installed to a separate systems otherwise one person could buy a game and literally share it with all his friends.

You would still need the play disc...

Anyway what's the point in making an issue about this now? DVD is still a very capable format for games, and if Microsoft had used a different format things would have been very different today... HD-DVD could still be around, or Microsoft could be in an even worse position than Sony was with the PS3... where they are jsut now really starting to get decent sales since the system is now at a more affordable price to the mass market. Sticking with DVD was a very smart choice for Microsoft, and if a few games have to be on more than one disc or have additional DLC because of it then it's a very small price to pay in the big picture.

Default Don't start bashing me over this, please

First off let me say I like my 360 I like it allot.
Unfortunately the 360 has reliability issues. Not one of my friends has their original 360.
I like XBL as well I don't mind paying for it but it could be a touch cheaper IMO.

I wish they would go multi-disc instead of all this DLC crap. I have over 2gb of maps for RB6:Vegas on my xbox and it came on the disc for the ps3. They did it back with FF:VII why not do it now. You can argue cost but I don't buy it a second disc wouldn't cost that much.

I haven't been buying games for my xbox for 6 months now partially because there hasn't been much I want and partially because my 3 year warranty is up and with my luck it's just a matter of time. I won't run out and drop more money for another 360.
This is the other reason I'm not buying games right now. With all this kind of talk about having to cut content for disc space reasons leads me to believe that M$ is going to drop a new console soon (12-24 months).

We are at the point now where dvd is holding games back and we are still expected to pay 60.00 for them and then expected to pay for content the dev wanted to give us but couldn't? WTF!

Not really, I don't know about PSN but since I'm on my 5th xbox I have to have XBL in order for my DLC to work since it was DL'ed with same HDD but several different Consoles the console ID is attached to all DLC files. It doesn't work off-line unless it's the HDD and the console it was Dl'ed on.

Capcom is using that as a excuse so they can charge for DLC. If they were releasing it for free because of the "storage restrictions", that would be a different story.

Did you even use the DRM license tool?

Also, Microsoft is losing some sales because of DVD being so easy to pirate. Not that Blu-Ray isn't, just more expensive to do. Well, Microsoft doesn't really care anyways. They'll make so much money off of DLC and there's no way a sane developer would cut the 360 out for that reason.
