Default Reference blu ray disc(s) for PQ and AQ

Hi,

Thanks guys for all the help you have extended to me so far.

I want to buy couple of Blu rays for PQ and AQ reference or demo. I am thinking of getting U-571 and Saawariya (bollywood movie), because i read some good reviews of these movies on this site.

I dont want to get Master and Commander because the movie is boring. Can you guys suggest some more?

Thanks

Blu-ray reviews sorted by overall rating

You can use the dropdowns to sort by AQ and PQ from there.

IMO, it has taken the top spot away from the likes of Cars and Ratatouille, though it's tough to argue against any of the Pixar films.

Baraka is still the best for Live-Action.

Ive yet to pick up Baraka, but Its definately up there on my list. Might have to borrow from my brother to give it a go so I can at least see the PQ on it.

Best disc out there undisputed, unchallenged is Baraka by Ron Fricke , being first ever commercial 8k transfer from 70/65mm that I know, watched It today with my Led sammy, there wasnt single frame or single second of audio that wasnt overwhelming for my visual or aural senses.

The fact states that, pretty much every frame of this movie has been polished gently and restored to maximum quality to represent the original conditions of filming this movie, Audio is 24/96 DTS-HD-MA with some beatiful tones to grace your aural senses, And not to forget there is plenty of dynamics to LFE chanel also,

For now there is nothing that cant surpass Baraka PQ wise! nothing, This will be the reference disc for our generation and perhaps inspire more 8K scans for 70mm film stock,

In my opinion there is not an single excuse in world, to not own this BD! buy this disc make sure that team working behind this impressive restoration didnt work for nothing!!

Well dont just take my word for it. see what acclaimed reviewers are saying

"the film represents the current zenith of Blu-ray picture quality. The depth, clarity, and color reproduction of the film is incredible. Each scene provides awe-inspiring, reference-quality imagery that effortlessly places the viewer within each frame of the film regardless of its locale on the world's surface"
https://www.blu-ray.com

"Technically it does have the best images I have ever captured on this new format. Detail, contrast, color - everything is in the extreme high-end. I was certainly 'wow'ed' and I believe I've now found the perfect demo disc for when guests head over"
Dvdbeaver

Baraka is the best looking live action Blu-ray release I have EVER seen. It's truly an extraordinary viewing experience. The detail present in the 2.21:1 aspect ratio image is just astonishing, almost to the level of what you'd experience in reality. It often feels as if you're actually there on location with the filmmakers

U-571 is a fairly darkly lit movie, so your TV should be good at showing blacks. It does, however, have reference-quality AQ.

For PQ, I like showing I, Robot, the POTC movies and the action scenes in Casino Royale.

I would say that is a great list. However, there are a few new titles that I would like to mix in. Here is my list of top 3:

The Dark Knight
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Transformers

I really don't care if there are other threads on this. I am always open to starting new threads so that we don't have to constantly navigate through old one. Good thread leoabrego!

No. Its bad. Not quite "artwork on the disc bad" but close.

I can't think of three movies that show off that I am a Blu-ray like the title implies...
