Interesting -- they only beat Samsung by ~ 200, which itself beat Sony by ~ 2000.

According to Quixel Research, Vizio's strength in the fourth quarter was driven in part by two of the top five best-selling TVs in the U.S. - the VO320E (32 inched) and VA19L (19 inches), in addition to one of the best-selling large size (more than 40-inch) TVs in the U.S., the VO420E (42 inches).
At Walmart, the VA19L is $178, the VO320E is $357, and the VO420E is $638. These are decent prices for the sets, and the average person (no offence to some of the people on this board) will be happy with the quality. IMO, 32" seems to be the starting point for a lot of people that finally decide to make the switch over to HDTV. I'm not sure why anyone would want a 19" set for anything other than a computer monitor (even that is somewhat small) or maybe something for the kitchen.

Sure they can out sell the competition. What they sell their tvs for you cant beat their prices so this is a no brainer. But good job by Vizio.

One thing I like about Vizio is that they went after the market that the "others" abandoned, and have done well. They made flat screen TV's affordable to many people who otherwise would be watching standard def CRT's. Sony, Samsung, etc. had to compete, and therefore lowered their prices to the benefit of the consumer. The only real player in the big screen market (65" and over) has been Mitsubishi with their DLP's, and now Vizio is entering that arena with their 72" flatscreen model; again - where have Samsung, Sony, and the rest of the manufactures been? So with reference to the consumer, Vizio's contribution has been nothing but good.

Sony had a 70" LCD...for $20,000 or so. I think they discounted it to $18,000 before they discontinued it. It was insane.

Panasonic has a 65" plasma, didn't meet the hype, but a nice unit. Prices all over the map, but you could get one for about $3,500-$4,000. Their premier unit was $9,000.

I'm not a fan of Vizio quality overall. But if they want to bust a move on the marketplace, they can do a good job on this unit, and rule the world. Let's see the result. I'd like to see a sharp stick in the eye of the industry for this "replace your TV for 3-D" stunt.

What do you mean by "didn't meet the hype"? The V10 was well received and got great reviews.

I've always been skeptical on Vizio until I purchased my first Vizio last year. It is great and every bit as good as most of the big name brand tv's. It's frame interpolation is excellent.

I own a Sony and I truly believe that it's still a superior product across the board-- but I'll admit that I've seen the Vizio Tv's on display and the picture looks very nice.
I personally would not buy one though for several more years to see what kind of longevity and repair record they have in time....

It's called dumping.

For a long time the margins on LCD TVs was very, very small. Manufacturers were actually losing money on their sets, but they couldn't afford to lose their foothold in the market. That's another reason why you saw alliances between companies (Sony & Samsung) to produce the sets...startup costs would run into the hundreds of millions. meanwhile Vizio...a pure *marketing* firm, would just buy their sets from Chinese OEMs.

Not to mention Vizio would do stuff like not pay for their patents.

Nothing but good indeed.

McDonald's sells millions more burgers than In & Out BTW.

Not to sound too elitest but we are all on a blu ray forum. Most of us have a decent enough either income or combined income that worrying about longevity should not be a problem. We all want our tvs to last but at same time it is not like most of us if the tv broke tomorrow, we could not go out the next day or maybe the next week and pick up a new one. Would not go to the extreme of calling it throw away technology but is pretty close right now.

Well, this is purely anecdotal, but I was out with my dad this weekend, helping him pick out an HDTV, and I was blown away by the Vizios that I saw. Their brightness and clarity really seemed much better than the others. I was really impressed by their 240Hz TruLED HDTV. CostCo was showing "Speed Racer" on it, and it looked stunning. It may be my next TV purchase...

SPEED RACER
was shot digitally with cartoon colors so it would look "good" on the worst sets out there (which always are turned up to "vivid" in the showroom).

True tests would be murky, dark material. Try the latest Harry Potter film on the Vizio, then say a Samsung, Panasonic, or Sony.
