Default Recommendations: Best TV for $1000?

I am looking for the advice of fellow bluray.com members on what TV to purchase. My Samsung LCF 60Hz LN-T4061F from Jan '08 is in very bad shape, and I can no longer ignore its serious image problems. I am going to have to get a new TV pronto.

With a budget of $1000, what do you recommend? I was thinking about going with plasma this time around, but feel free to recommend whatever. I will not be able to afford a new 3D TV. Size? Well, I am using a 40 inch now, but would like to get up to a 46" next time. As far as the store, I would like to go with Best Buy or Ultimate Electronics.

All input will be appreciated.

You can get a TC-P46S2 for that price.

A TC-P42G25 will run you just over.

I checked out these two Panny Viera models at lunch:

TC-P42S2 $809
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Panasoni...&skuId=9761068

TC-P42U2 $719
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Panasoni...&skuId=9761059

I didn't see any G25 models or 46" plasmas. With one of these, I could still stay around my budget and get a protection plan. Any opinons on those models one way or the other?

That looks real nice. I am a little hesitant to order online versus picking it up myself at a B&M store, though...but that looks nice enough to make me think it over.

I Bought my TV for about 800 bucks and it looks better than allot of 1080p sets. I have a Samsung 42in 720p display. I just get burn in allot but my warranty covers it.

Check the samsung pn50c550, I was blow away with the sharp pic, and great blacks, just a little over the price. Plus a beautiful tv.

Thanks for the replies, all. I ended up going over budget a bit for a 2010 Panasonic TC-P50G20 and 4 years protection. Just spent most of the afternoon setting it up and reprogramming the Harmony remote.

Now to sit down for awhile and check it out, Sox are on...

I can tell already, I'll want to search for some display settings on here later...it looks fantastic, but I need to check on some things (like color management on or off and things like that).
