My wife barely knows what the receiver is, much less what forms of surround sound processing it handles. Unfortunately, we are on complete opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to home theater enjoyment. She barely tolerates it as she thinks watching almost anything is a waste of time. Therefore, most of my use of the system (other than sports) comes in the mornings while everyone else is still asleep. Fortunately, everyone sleeps on the floor above me and uses noise boxes for white noise.

+1! It's a lot more fun for me to get stuff and show it off to my wife. She loves it. Just doesn't like when I want everything at once. Which I understand.

I think my wife has gotten up to stage 4 once or twice, but not level 5 or 6. Usually she is at stage 2 on average.

Great thread HD Man!

I got some of those before but not in that order. The biggest one ia got was the sub one. But she loves the way it sounds. she'll make a fuss but very much accept it afterwards.

Great post. love it.

P.S. I finally learned what WAF stands for. lol no lie.

You are all making a mistake by adding components one at a time. You should do it the way I did. Once, I brought 4 large subwoofers to our HT room and asked my wife to help me carry them. She knew I have a bad back and helped me without any problems. She even made suggestions on where to put them. On another occassion, I bought a projector and several surround speakers. Once, on a Saturday afternoon, we went to dinner and movies together. After the movie, we walked into a high-end A/V store. I ended up spending $1,800 on a Martin Logan center speaker. As usual, she helped me carry the monster inside. The best was when we went to a furniture/HT store and I bought two large TV's and an A/V rack at the same time and asked her to do all the paper work while I was in the showroom lusting over equipment.

The key is not to hide anything from your wife. Get her involved and ask her for help and suggestions. She is more likely to accept your craziness if you encourage her to audition the equipment and ask her opinion.

Incidentally, I offer HT Addiction and WAF management classes every day after midnight.

Where do I sign up Big Daddy and is there a fee?

On this subject, my wife just gave me the OK to obtain an Emotiva XPA-3, and like Big Daddy said, being honest really does work! However, I need to sell my old Polk set-up first to get the $$ to buy it. But all in good time!

Funny man.
Big Daddy, you have all reason. We have to envolve our wife to be part of our intentional plan.

She's not that old really but would actually laugh, (I think) if she saw this post. I only have been through the first two stages but have friends that have experienced 5 & 6. Usually when the UPS driver is continually dropping off large packages for something she knows nothing about.

Agree with Bid Daddy though, got to keep everything up front. I just ordered some new Berkline theater chairs and we had talked about it in the past and she keep saying there were other priorities. (I keep thinking, to myself of course, like what?)

Just presented it as a great deal for a set of four and simply asked if she would prefer the power recline or the manual recline. She said why wouldn't you get the power? Sold!! Chairs are being delivered Friday
