IVL is a subsidiary of Disney. Should be identical to the Japanese disc

At least that was the case with the Ghibli DVDs they put out

Oh, I am tempted. Maybe I should just pull the trigger and get it instead of waiting a month.

People who haven't seen the film yet should skip the "synopsis" at DDDHouse as it tells the whole damn plot...

Sounds like a good fallback point if Disney screws up the US release somehow...

^ I betcha the US Disney bluray will only have 5.1 DTS sound - but of course I could be wrong.

HK Ponyo is 1080i and not 1080p. It does have the 6.1 DTS-HD MA Japanese track and English subs.

Wow, they screwed the pooch on that one. Good thing I didn't order that version blind...

Since I'm not willing to pay $75 for the Japanese BD of Ponyo, I'll have to settle for the lame lossy audio of the US version.

We have a winner, if the HK won't do, they'll take the horrible U.S. release.

Since it'll be like $15 after coupons, I'm willing to settle. The only Ghibli film I'd be willing to pay full JP price for is Mononoke Hime.

Any possibility of a misprint? Is there any confirmatory evidence online like screen captures?

If not, then has anyone heard about the Taiwan version?

No screenshots, but that is a straight disc scan. I mean, it is possible it was flagged incorrectly leading to 1080i.

As for the Taiwan version, I have no idea. Seems to have identical specs to the HK and Japanese versions, so it could go either way: http://translate.google.com/translat...sl=zh-CN&tl=en

No way. I'll stubornly wait and compare the Region A releases before buying no matter how much of a headache this turns out to be.

There's only one left to go.

Do Taiwan's BDs look like this? (no blu-ray strip at the top or clear plastic casing) It almost looks like a steelbook or a slipcover.

The question is who is brave enough to give the Taiwan BD a go? It's available as DVD.JSDVD.COM and YESASIA.COM.

But we're in the Asian section. Someone has to have some knowledge of this hopefully. It was released on 1/27/10. With 21 days shipping, it might take a while for that person to say something.

I'm going save up and do the same. To me the movie is worth it, might as well just get the definitive version and not worry.
