Default Yamaha YPAO Calibration subwoofer issue

I just hooked up my new Yamaha RX-V765BL last night and watched the Incredible Hulk and it blew me away. Today I ran the YPAO Automatic System Calibration and now I cant hear the sub. I messed around with the settings for a while and I can not figure out why the sub is almost non existant.

Btw i reset the settings back to factory for now and it sounds good but it should sound better after running the YPAO. My old reciever was a yamaha HTR-6240 and I had no problems using the YPAO on it but I did have different speakers and subwoofer than I do now. Right now I am running all BIC AMERICA Venturi speakers (Venturi DV64 fronts, DV-62CLRS center, DV62si rears and a BIC America V-1220 subwoofer). Can anyone here shed some light on this for me please?

THANKS

make sure all your speakers are set to small with the crossover at 80hz (or whatever sounds best for you)

I have the HTR-6180, and I find that the YPAO often dials the sub waaaay down (depending on the day, down to -10dB).

I've given up on the YPAO and invested in an SPL meter and manually adjusted everything myself. Night and day difference.

alot of times auto calibration systems will set speakers to large, that sends all the low end to the speakers instead of the sub. Run it again and them go back and check the settings.

BAH....this happen to me when i first ran th YPAO too. It set my subwoofer to -10db which meant i couldn't hear it. then i was like WTF? i set it to -3db and mine is plenty loud now.

i would check the db level of the subwoofer on the yamaha. i recent swapped out speakers for an in-wall situation and re-ran YPAO...i think it came it at around -2 or -3. but depending on your sub...you could need +10 for all i know.

Auto cal isn't always all it's cracked-up to be. Also, you shouldn't really have to set the speakers to small, that's what the auto cal is for.... It could also be that you prefer a really loud sub. I have an HK 254 and the auto cal for the sub is a tad on the low side. There's nothing wrong with turn the sub level up to suit your tastes after the auto cal.

I, personally, switch off the EzSet EQ after my auto cal. It maintains the levels, delays, and crossovers, but defeats the EQ trims that are set during the auto cal. The sound is a bit more lively with it off. I don't know if you can do this with the YPAO.

Setting the speakers to small worked. After the YPAO was set the reciever was sending all the low frequencies to the front speakers instead of the sub.

Thanks for all the help guys

Glad you were able to fix it. YPAO can be really effective, but just make sure after you run it to set your speakers at small, and crossed over at 80 Hz.

I've used YPAO on my last two receivers, and that is only one of two issues I've found. The other issue, is that the YPAO optimization microphone is limited to a bottom end accuracy level of around 40 Hz or so before it begins tailing off. Because of this, the LFE channel doesn't really get fully dialed in. To overcome this, and really fine tune the system, I run YPAO and then fine tune things with a sound meter. I calibrate all channels to match 70 dBs. Since I use the Radio Shack meter, which also has low sensitivity down in the LFE section, I tune my M&K MX-125 sub to 74 dBs.

When it's all put together, everything sounds really seamless and natural, with great bass extension. The Incredible Hulk campus scene is a great evaluation scene, and it will let you know if your LFE is dialed in well or not.
