Despite BioWare’s repeated insistence that Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 will not be coming to the Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3), a fresh rumour regarding a possible port of the Xbox 360
series is setting the Web aflame. The whisper in question, emanating from a hopeful report on allegedlyspeaking.com, suggests a countdown clock posted to the official Mass Effect site is BioWare’s lead-in to a long-awaited cross-platform announcement regarding the critically acclaimed sci-fi RPGs. With the new ‘Firewalker’ and ‘Alternate Appearance Pack’ downloadable content (DLC) launched for Mass Effect 2 on March 23, and the upcoming ‘Kasumi – Stolen Memory’ character mission not expected until “early April,” the gaming site claims the countdown is for something much more substantial. “Now I might be completely off here, but I’m thinking that BioWare is going to announce a PlayStation 3 version for Mass Effect 2…” offered Nathan Schmidt in his interpretation of the countdown’s appearance. “I wouldn’t be surprised if they also announced a port of the first Mass Effect as well.” However, while PS3 owners would likely be thrilled to see the Mass Effect series hit Sony’s console (something The Tech Herald finds highly unlikely given the size of Microsoft’s chequebook), the same countdown clock has been posted to BioWare’s official site for Dragon Age: Origins – a game that’s already available on both the PS3 and Xbox 360. Covering all angles of attack on the rumour front, Schmidt suggests the dual countdown could perhaps mean BioWare is preparing to formally reveal full sequels for both Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Origins. He also concedes the clocks could just be counting down to the arrival of yet more downloadable content for both titles. There’s only one way to find out – short of storming the BioWare offices with rusty iron maidens and blood-encrusted thumbscrews – and that’s to wait until the clock(s) strike zero, which will happen in approximately three days, 11 hours, and 35 minutes. Tick. Tock. http://www.thetechherald.com/article...nounced-Monday Last edited by mikejet; 03-29-2010 at 07:46 PM. |

This would be great news if true, but I doubt it. I bought Mass Effect 2 for the PC and I absolutely love it, and if it came to the PS3, I would buy a second copy. In my opinion Mass Effect is the biggest and one of the only reasons to buy a 360.

2 playthroughs..they're pretty easy achievments unlike the first Mass effect. The hardest one had to be the buttstroke and finish them off the the gun cuz I never did it.

I do think ME series will go multiplat, but not yet. The sales of Bioshock 1/2 on PS3 are enough to show the owners buy late ports. Well in Europe at least... |

I wouldn't be shocked to see this. Bioware has already stated they have a huge announcement for Mass Effect 2 in near future that isn't about Mass Effect 3 or new DLC.
One can only figure that a Huge announcement that does revolve around new DLC or part 3 would be a PS3 release. I hope it does make it's way to the PSN. The game was amazing and everyone should get a chance to play it. |

Well to be fair not a lot of people I know in the US would buy a late port at full price. I bought more than one late port (Oblivion, Braid, Bioshock) but always waited to find them at a bargain price.

i got oblivion and bioshock for cheap too, never played braid though, but youre right, even if its new to the platform, i wouldnt pay full price for a game thats not new to the market, if they release this, it would be a good idea to release both of them together in a two disc pack, id pay a full $60 for that, but i would think if they did, they would start it out at closer to $45, since if it happens, it wont be for awhile and by then, even ME2 will be a bit older to the market

Not to pick on you, you just happened to post something that related to what I want to say.
Post that a PS3 game is losing exclusivity and people all over the world nod and say "You just can't expect exclusive games with the costs of current game-making." Post that a 360 game is losing exclusivity and it's a collective "No way!" "Never happen" "Keep dreaming". Most double standards I understand on some level, but this one baffles me. Especially given the number of 360-exclusives that weren't. |
