Default 5.1 Audio Hook up from BD Player > Receiver

Hi folks,

I just went Blu last week and am absolutely loving it. I made a pretty major upgrade to the whole system, ditching my crappy old Phillips-system-in-a-box SS speakers for the Athena Micra-6 set (which is ridiculous -- I think I'm going to get evicted from my apartment).

My set up:
SONY 42" LCD HDTV (rear projection)
Pioneer Receiver (w/ 5.1 input hookup)
Samsung BD1200 Blu-Ray Player

My question is this: I currently have the audio run from the Samsung BD Player to the Pioneer receiver on a single coax line (there's no optical input on my receiver). The receiver does, however, have the 5.1 coax input where you run a separate coax line for each of the 5 channels in addition to the sub (which is already hooked up separately).

In terms of sound quality, is it worth doing? Worth purchasing the new cables and doing the rewire? I'm open to it, I just want to make sure it's worth the effort.

Thanks!
